Boobs and Babies

****

I wasn't so sure today was going to be a good day when it
started, but it turned around and now I'm feeling better.

How my day goes always revolves around what kind of night
Keenan has the night before. After a long, tiring day
yesterday I was really hoping Keenan would have a good
night's sleep. It didn't really work out that way. It was
one of his 4 feedings kind of nights. He was up every 90
minutes to two hours, wanting to eat. Snookums decided
around 2am he wasn't getting up with him anymore, so it
was all up to me at that point. I'm usually fine with the
late nights, but I was running on fumes energy-wise
(because of the long day). I can't even tell you how happy
I was when he went back to sleep at 6am and stayed asleep
until 11am. Since Snookums bailed on me the night before,
he got up with the girls this morning and let me sleep in
with Keenan. I eventually had to wake Keenan up to eat
because my boobies were going to blow! It's like he plays
a cruel game with me. He eats, eats, eats, builds up my
milk supply, then passes out for hours on end, leaving me
engorged and sore. He does it on purpose, I know it. You
can't wake him up to eat. If he doesn't want it, he
doesn't want it and that's that. So, I've been using this
to my advantage. I pump 3 oz out (just a teeny 1.5 oz from
each side) and freeze it. This way I'm putting some milk
away and relieving a little pressure on the girls. I've
got over a half gallon of breast milk in the freezer
already! I'd say I'm ready to go back to work.

I discovered that Keenan likes his swing...If I get it
swinging on it's fastest setting and crank up the nature
sounds. So, he's in a trance (swinging through the
rainforest by the sound of it) and I've been able to get
some things done around the house. Laundry, light
cleaning. I'm a little sore from yesterday's jaunt, but
I'm so stoked about not having to hold Keenan all day,
housework seems like fun! None of my children have wanted
to be held as much as this boy.

After Keenan's last feeding, he reached one of his very
important milestones right before my eyes! I was talking
to him in that sing-songy voice baby's love so much. He
was looking right at me with his eyes big and wide, his
newly chubby arms and legs kicking and flailing. He was
making the cutest little cooing sounds, then it happened.
A big, gummy grin! He'd made the usual little gas smiles
or smiled in his sleep plenty of times, but this was very
intentional and directed right at me! Somehow that one
smile made all of the long nights so far totally worth it.
He appreciates me :) I tried to get him to do it again so
I could take a picture. He refused, but as soon as the
camera was gone, he did it again :) Snookums still doesn't
believe he smiled at me, because he won't smile for him.
It's our thing for the moment, before he grows up a little
more and starts smiling at everybody like his daddy does.

Annie went to her first day of Reading and Math Olympics.
The Summer program her school is hosting. She seemed
really happy when she got home, which made me really happy
because I want her to be able to do fun things this
Summer. It's the first year since she started school that
she hasn't gone to the Youth and Teen Center's Summer
camp. Her friend Haruki is going to the school's program,
too. So, she's among friends. Annie needs engaging things
to keep her entertained. She's been running the
neighborhood far too much lately. This program is great
for her and I'm sure it will do wonders for her retention
when it comes time to start back to school. I'm pleased :)

I know all my entries are ever about these days are boobs
and babies (this one especially so), but that's just what
I've got going on at the moment. At times I wish I had
more interesting things to share, but then I remember that
this is what my diary is for! Remembering these times in
my life and I need to continue staying true to that. The
idea of writing a blog for money is tempting, but I love
writing my diary way too much to sell out like that.

Tonight's dinner is spaghetti. Guess who's cooking it? Me!
So, I'd better get on that while Keenan is still subdued
by the sounds of the rainforest. Ciao!
