My Life Thus Far

Grandma Ball-Of-Energy

****

I'm tired. I'm sure sleep is out of the question, but I
could really us it. Nature's way of preparing me for a
newborn is kicking my ass. More so than a newborn will. I
think I'll at least attempt to get a little more sleep
tonight. I had a busier day than I usually do.

Kiki and I left the house a little after 10am this
morning. I paid the cable bill, the washer and dryer loan,
picked up my last paycheck, went to the bank and bought a
few odds and ends at Target. Just as I was on my way home,
Helena called. She was sitting in front of the house,
wondering where I was. She could have called first. Would
that have been so hard?

I'd planned on going grocery shopping today, but I wanted
to wait until Helena got here, so she could go too.
There's things she'll want to have that we don't normally
buy, so that was my plan. Instead, I stayed home and
Helena took it upon herself to shop. Which I guess is
fine. She interrogated me as to what the girls and I
usually like and bought above and beyond that. I have a
hard time relinquishing control (because I spent so much
of my life having none), but I have to admit, it was nice
having someone else here to shop, cook and then do dishes.
Helena is 60 years old, but I swear she's got more energy
than I do on a good day.

After dinner, we took the girls down to the park. The
girls had a great time throwing rocks in the water and
playing on the equipment. It was a lovely evening. The sun
decided to come out and the wind wasn't too chilly.
Afterwards, we came home and the girls played in the
playroom (which Helena decided to outfit with an air
mattress, even though I bought new sheets for the twin bed
in Kiki's room). Helena and I talked for hours about Dan
and Jason. I have to admit, their marriage is
dysfunctional to say the least. They haven't lived
together in two years, but they still spend every holiday
together and Helena still takes care of the finances.
Snookums and I have a picture-perfect marriage in
comparison and Lord knows we've got some skeletons in our
marital closet. Dan and Helena don't know anything about
them and I intend to keep it that way.

Everybody is asleep right now, except for me. I'm going to
try to get to bed earlier tonight, so I can get up with
everyone else in the morning and not be a zombie. I don't
think I'll be able to convince the girls to sleep until
10am like they normally do on a Saturday. Not with Grandma
ball-of-energy here. She went to bed at 9:45pm. I'm sure
she'll be up and ready to run by 8am. Oh joy. Ciao for now.
