My Life Thus Far

I Hate Being Tested

Of course, the day I want to garden it has to start
raining. It isn't a torrential downpour, but it's just
enough to irritate me and make me wonder whether or not I
should postpone planting until tomorrow. Watch, I'll get
out there today, get rained on and it will be a gloriously
sunny day tomorrow. That's my kind of luck. Just like
washing the car on Friday and having a bird poop on it
UNDER the carport on Saturday is, too. I hate being
tested.

Speaking of being tested, I got a phone call from Helena
today. She won't even be here until Friday, but she's
already reconfiguring sleeping arrangements and planning
activities. I hate to break it to her, but I'm NOT going
to be up to entertaining while she's here. She'll figure
that out soon enough I suppose. She's got no idea what
life is like with a newborn.

We still haven't told Helena the baby's name definitively.
Instead, I gave her the three options I had on my myspace
poll, thinking she'd be satisfied with that much
information and would leave me alone about it until after
he's born. No, that idea backfired. Instead, I got to hear
what she didn't like about all three names! Julian is too
feminine. He might be teased and called Julia. Brendan
doesn't have any good nicknames. Keenan also doesn't have
any good nicknames and it's too similar to Kiki (I had to
remind her that Kiki isn't Kallista's real name. The only
thing the two names have in common is "K" as the first
letter and some families name their children that way on
purpose). She doesn't even know which name we picked, but
she doesn't like Keenan the most. How come that doesn't
surprise me? Even not knowing, she hates the name we like.
I'm tired of people putting their two cents into whether
they like or don't like Keenan's name. That's his name.
He's not your child, so suck it up and keep your comments
to yourself. I'm not going to get too upset about it. We
went through the same thing with Kallista's name when I
was pregnant with her. Now, no one can imagine her being
anything but Kiki (Helena said her name sounded like a
cheap stripper's name. Nice, huh)?

I found the cutest Classic Pooh wall decorations at Target
today! Yes, I know I spend entirely too much time at
Target. It's a weakness. Anyhow, after I get my garden
tidied up I'm going to hang them. Classic Pooh is the
perfect theme for the nursery. Especially since Kiki and
Keenan will be sharing for a couple years. At least until
we transfer. We're eligible to move into a 4 bedroom now,
but why? We just moved in here 9 months ago. I'm not
moving again so soon! They're both young and it won't
matter.

Okay, it's stopped raining and I can see some blue sky, so
I'm thinking it's safe to go outside! I love digging in
wet dirt. It makes the smell so much more earthy and rich.
