There's Something About The Smell Of Dirt

****

I'm tired of doing the same things over and over again.
Laundry, dishes, making beds, picking up toys, changing
diapers, cooking, cleaning. I realize it's all part of
motherhood, but damn. It gets REALLY boring when you've
got nothing else going on. A few days ago I told Annie to
make her bed. She genuinely asked me "Mommy, why do I have
to make my bed if I'm just going to mess it up again
tonight"? I had to give her the neatness and cleanliness
spiel because that's my job, but in all honesty I feel the
same way. Dishes, laundry and bed-making are the three
things I hate more than anything because they keep coming
back! Unfortunately I love perfection, so I have to keep
moving in circles like a hamster on a wheel so that the
house always looks nice. I need to do the dishes and take
out the garbage and recycling. I've procrastinated all
day, but I've thought of something I want to do tomorrow
and if I want to do it badly enough, I'm making myself get
the mundane stuff done first.

I want to go to Home Depot and buy a few summer flowers
for the front yard tomorrow. My Spring flowers have died
back and now there's no color out there. The Rhododendrons
are starting to open, so I won't need much (they're red!
Snookums and I have been wondering since we moved in what
color the Rhodies would be). There's something about the
smell of dirt that I enjoy very much. I don't have Pica,
it's not an appetizing smell, but I still find it
pleasant. So, if I want to garden tomorrow, I have to do
the dishes tonight. I guess that's fair. Speaking of
gardening, my tomato seeds have sprouted! I've got a
planter box in a sunny spot on the dining room balcony and
yesterday I noticed little green shoots popping up out of
the soil! Yea! Tomatoes this summer! I just have to make
sure the girls don't let Zoe out there, because she'll eat
my poor tomato plants before they even have a chance.

As I mentioned earlier, I procrastinated today. I did
finish the laundry. I'm so glad I cleaned out Kiki's
closet. It was a breeze putting her clothes away (for
once). I can't say the same for my clothes. The closet is
too full, there aren't enough hangers and I can't find
things once they go in. I'm not ready to go through my
clothes yet. I want to lose some weight first.

Okay. Enough of the procrastination! I'm off to do dishes.
I think I can..I think I can..I think I can..I KNOW I can!
Ciao
