Pregnancy-Induced Hypertension

****

For the most part, my day was good. Not great. I got some
bad news at the doctor, but it's not horrible. Just not
great. Thankfully, it's something that will resolve itself
shortly.

I woke up this morning feeling pretty good. I slept well
last night. I hate to admit it, but I sleep better when
Snookums isn't home. I don't have to endure his snoring,
hogging the bed, or his random outbursts of thrashing and
kicking. I'll miss my sleep when he comes home :)

I waited all morning for the UPS man to come, but he
didn't. I tried to let it go, but I couldn't. Why didn't
he come later in the day yesterday? I could have had my
bouncer and been done with it, but NO. That didn't happen.
By the time Selena got her at 1:30pm, he still hadn't
come. According to Selena, when he did finally deliver my
much anticipated bouncer, it was long after the 2pm it was
supposed to come at. Bastard. I'm convinced the UPS man is
screwing with me. I've got everything now, so it will be
awhile before I'm chained to the house waiting for him
again. I got it put together and loaded with batteries.
Now you won't have to hear me mention it ever again :)

My doctor's appointment was both good and bad. It was good
because I got in and out in under 30 minutes. It was bad
because I was given yet another ailment, like I don't have
enough already. Even though my appointment was a walk-in
appointment, I was still seen very quickly. Even more
quickly then I'm seen when I have an actual appointment! I
don't understand that, but whatever. The nurse brought me
back and I stepped on the scale. My jaw nearly dropped off
my face. I'd gained 6 pounds since last Friday! I didn't
gain 6 pounds over the past 3 months! How the hell could I
have gained 6 pounds in a week! The nurse just laughed,
but my radar was on at that point. She brings me into the
exam room and takes my blood pressure. My left arm
registered a reading of 143/90. HIGH. So, she tries my
right arm. 157/100! That is high for anyone, but my blood
pressure is almost always in the 90's. My usual pregnant
blood pressure is 98/65 or at worst 112/70. So, this was
crazy-high for me. The nurse high-tailed it out of the
room and came back with Dr. Ennis. He looked at my swollen
feet, ankles, legs, fingers, face. Asked me if I'd had any
other symptoms (I told him about my weakness and nausea,
fatigue and the spots I sometimes see when I get a little
light-headed). He diagnosed me with pregnancy-induced
hypertension. All of my symptoms (especially the rapid
weight gain and swelling) pointed right to it. I had the
same thing with Kiki. The only thing that makes it go away
is delivering and since I'm so close to doing that anyway
(I'm 38 weeks 2 days), there isn't much he can do about
it. Keenan is fine and will be fine. Based on my doctor's
expert medical opinion, he thinks he's probably going to
weigh in somewhere between 9-10 pounds. I'm expecting him
to be more in the 8-9 range. I don't think I'm as big as I
was with Kiki. Thankfully, my cervix is still at 2cm. I'm
slightly more effaced, at 75%. So, I've made a teeny bit
of progress, but I think I'll still make it until Helena
gets here. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I've got Selena
and Gen as back-up, though. So, it's not the end of the
world if he makes his debut a little earlier.

Since it only took me 30 minutes to get checked, I decided
to get my money's worth with the babysitter and I stopped
by my new favorite store (Target) to buy myself something.
I ended up getting new pajamas, a couple nursing tank tops
and some trial sized stuff for my hospital bag. I've got
room for the full-sized bottles, but why carry more if you
aren't going to need it?

The rest of the evening was pretty relaxed. The girls ate
hot dogs and tons of fruit for dinner (cherries, grapes,
strawberries and honey orange segments). Then they took a
bath together and went to bed. I'd have to say, it was a
good day. Ciao.
