My Life Thus Far

For Posterity

*****

I'm going to try REALLY hard not to accidentally erase
this entry! I already know it's going to be long, because
I haven't updated in days. So much has happened this week.
Nothing earth-shattering. The usual stuff and some medical
updates (I know everyone wants to read about that), but I
feel I need to cover everything. For posterity.

Before I get started I just wanted to thank everyone for
their kind feedback. I just finished responding to
everybody (because that's important to me). You were nice
enough to send me a message, you deserve a response. So,
thanks. I haven't heard from her since, so I'm pretty sure
it's water under the bridge. I'll never understand what
made her take it to that level, but then I'm no
psychiatrist. If I were, I wouldn't always be getting sent
to one!

Okay, so there's no way I can do a word for word update on
every day I've missed this week, so It'll have to be
short, sweet and to the point. I'll try not to leave
anything out, but my memory has really been going these
days!

TUESDAY: Kiki and I had back to back doctor's
appointments. Hers was for her tongue. She was born with a
short frenulum (a tongue tie) and her speech therapist
feels that it's inhibiting her speech. So, we went to have
an otolaryngologist (ears, nose and throat doctor) take a
look at it. While we were there he also decided he wants
to do a hearing test to evaluate her for tubes in her ears
(she's had more ear infections in her life than I can
count). It looks like in about 6-8 weeks Kiki will have to
go into surgery to have the tongue clipped and the tubes
placed at the same time. They'll have to put her under
general anesthesia because she's extremely fearful and
it's necessary for the tubes. We'll see what ends up
happening with this. She'll have the hearing test on the
30th and that will determine whether she needs the tubes
at all. I'm hoping she doesn't.

I thought my appointment would be the usual prenatal check-
up, but it ended up being a little more involved than
that. The doctor reviewed the results of the ultrasound I
had a few weeks ago and discovered that my fluid levels
were at the 95th percentile (high), while the baby's
growth was only at the 34th percentile (low end of
normal). He's also in a breech presentation. I don't know
what would cause that much of a discrepancy, but the
doctor said my blood glucose test results were on the low
side. I was sent to the lab to do another glucose
tolerance test. This time without fasting. They also took
two other vials of blood, but I wasn't told what those
tests were for.

At this appointment I was measuring even larger. 35 weeks
instead of 32 and the baby was still breech, so I have to
go back on May 2nd for another ultrasound. To check my
fluid levels (because the doctor thinks they've increased)
and to check his position. I'll be 35 weeks at that time
and if he's still breech, we'll have to look into
procedures to turn him over. There's only a small chance
he'll turn himself over (and stay head down) at that point
if he hasn't already done it by that time. I don't want a
c-section. I'll do whatever I have to to prevent that from
happening.

WEDNESDAY: Kiki went back to Kitsap Lake for more speech
testing. This time I got a pleasant surprise. One I wasn't
expecting, but was happy to hear. At Holly Ridge, when
Kiki is tested, I'm not allowed to be with her. This is to
help facilitate independence, I get that. The only thing
is, Kiki takes hours to warm up to people she knows, so
there's no way a stranger will be able to get her talking
in only a matter of minutes. At Kitsap Lake, I stayed with
Kiki while the speech teacher administered her test. The
results were surprising. Kiki scored 4 year old level
comprehension in some areas! Kitsap Lake recommends she be
taken out of therapy for the duration of the summer and
then tested again the beginning of next school year just
to make sure she's still progressing. Other than needing
help with her articulation (the tongue tie surgery), she's
all caught up and even ahead a little! I'm so proud of
her. She's worked hard this past year, doing things she
wasn't comfortable with, but she's talking now and talking
up a storm!

TODAY: Kiki and I took a rest. I've been on the go every
day this week, so I took today to rest a little. I'm
feeling very worn out these days. Even trying to sleep is
hard work! I can't turn over without trouble, which leaves
me drained all day. So, Kiki and I watched cartoons and
played games together. She loves to dance during
commercial breaks, so we'd do that. Which kind of wore me
out, but it's fun spending my days with Kiki.

After Snookums and Annie got home, we went to Target. The
girls at work are throwing us pregnant one's a joint baby
shower and both Tamara and Tiffany registered at Target,
so I was persuaded to do so as well. I wanted Snookums to
participate, since this is his son, too. At first he
wasn't that into it, but before I knew what happened, the
gun had been taken from me and all I could hear
was 'beep', 'beep' as he scanned damn near everything in
sight! We had 60 items on our registry! I don't know what
the average is, but I thought 60 might be a bit much.
Especially since the girls I work with are pretty much
poor college girls and don't have all that much money.
I'll be happy with whatever I get. I'm not complaining. I
wasn't planning on having a shower at all.

Now I'm ready for bed. I think I want a bath first. Yeah.
Okay. I'm done! I don't have anything planned for
tomorrow, hopefully it's just a chill day. That would be
such a relief. Ciao.
