The Lesser Of The Two Evils

I have heartburn SO BAD, I could melt the hair off an
aardvark's ass. Do they have hair on their ass? You know
what I mean. I'm sure it has everything to do with the
omelet I ate at 10pm last night. Not one of my smarter
moves.

Snookums came home early yesterday, Annie had early
release from school. So, we were all home by 2pm. It was
motivation enough for me to get out of bed. Not until
after A Baby Story, but at least by 3pm. That gave
Snookums time to take a shower, clean up the house, do the
dishes, give Kiki a bath and help Annie with her homework.
I love having him home.

On a side note: I've been very disappointed with A Baby
Story this week. Everyone has been having c-sections. Not
emergency c-sections after attempting labor, but elected
or planned c-sections. It takes all the fun out of
watching. One woman openly admitted to having a c-section
just because she didn't want to endure the pain of labor.
What a cop out. Do doctors really let you do that? I
assumed that when you accepted the responsibility of
having a child, you kind of signed yourself up to at least
a little bit of pain. I have nothing against epidurals,
spinals or Demerol drips. I just don't need them. That
doesn't make me superior in the birthing department. I
just have a higher threshold for pain. The others woman on
the show had had previous c-sections and didn't want to
attempt a VBAC (vaginal birth after c-section). I suppose
that's their choice, but I feel like child birth is one of
those things a woman was made to do. VBAC's can be
dangerous (I've heard), but I still like the episodes with
vaginal births better. Preferably natural births, because
I can watch what the woman do to manage pain. With Annie
and Kiki, I pretty much just curled up in a fetal position
and cussed out anyone that came near me or touched me...It
worked, but I'm sure there's a better way. Screw those
breathing exercises.

Okay, back to yesterday: after A Baby Story was over, I
threw on some sweats and the whole family went for a walk.
It felt nice to get out. The weather was a little gloomy,
but it wasn't raining (yet) or cold. Perfect walking
weather. We stopped by the park so the girls could play,
then headed home when the sprinkles started. I whine and
complain about having to leave the house, but sometimes
it's nice getting out for a little while. Walking is great
for me and the baby, but it did make my pelvis hurt. It
still hurts, but walking helps the sciatica which hurts
more, so I'll take the lesser of the two evils.

By the time we got home it was nearing dinner time. I made
shake and bake chicken, which is one of those nostalgic
meals I ate as a kid...at other people's houses. My mother
only seemed to cook soul food, but that's another story.
After dinner, the girls watched a little tv, then went to
bed and I took a bath to help with my pelvic pain. It
helped a lot and I got in some reading time, too. The good
thing about the pelvic pain is that not moving and the
heating pad help, unlike the sciatica which just hurts no
matter what I do. I think I need to find a happy medium
when it comes to physical exertion. When I move around a
little, it makes the pain better, when I over-do it, I
hurt. Now I only need to find where one line bleeds into
another. What exactly is too much? Heavy gardening: too
much. A nice slow walk: perfect.

My heartburn is beginning to subside some. I think the
Zantac is starting to work, but that's not a guarantee of
pain relief. Zantac hasn't been very effective lately.
I've got feet and fists in my ribs at all times, pushing
on everything. Last night, Snookums and I were laying in
bed, watching CSI:NY (nothing else was on, it was better
than QVC, which can only mean I'm becoming a recluse, if
that's what I want to watch). The detective on tv, went to
the kitchen and started taking things out of the fridge.
Milk, eggs, cheese, meat, tomatoes, mushrooms. I knew he
was making an omelet and all of a sudden it sounded really
good. We had dinner early yesterday and by this time it
had been about 5 hours since I'd eaten. I could go for an
omelet. So, at 10pm I made Snookums and I ham and cheese
omelets with a touch of mushroom and onion and 3 cheeses
(Colby, Monterey Jack and Cheddar). They were so good :) I
think it helped me sleep, because I was out by 11pm. I
woke up through out the night with heartburn, which made
me have to sleep completely propped up and whenever I fell
down it came back, but if I stayed sitting up, I slept
really well. No problems falling back to sleep once I got
the heartburn to cool down. By 6am, The heartburn got
particularly brutal (because it was time for another
Zantac). So, I just got up. 7 hours of sleep is better
than I usually get. I would go back and lay down now, but
Kiki has therapy at 9am and if I do, I probably won't want
to get back up and will end up running late. There's
always nap time.

Wow. I had a lot to say this morning. I feel bad for Gen
if I talk this much during coffee today :) Ciao!
