My Life Thus Far

So Much Simpler

****

I made it out of the house today, but it wasn't easy. I
think if I didn't have to get myself and two other people
dressed and in the car I'd enjoy going out more. I hate
getting dressed. The whole routine. Picking out clothes,
brushing my hair, putting on make-up (which is VERY
optional these days). I don't mind taking a shower,
brushing my teeth and putting on pajamas, it's the
beautifying crap I hate doing. I think it's because I feel
it's pointless. I put 20 minutes into my appearance, but
once I'm done I'm still big, swollen and lumpy. It's like
putting clothes and make-up on a water buffalo. Pointless.
Annie isn't enjoyable to dress, because she doesn't want
me picking out her clothes anymore. Yet, she insists on
wearing 12 colors at a time. Like she's Hannah Montana or
something. Kiki hates getting her hair brushed, hates
wearing clothes in general and complains that ALL of her
shoes are too tight. It's so much easier staying home. I
stay in pajamas, Annie wears everything in her closet at
once and Kiki runs around in a diaper (if we're lucky).
Life is so much simpler that way.

The girls and I went to coffee with Gen and Cyrus early
this afternoon. It's one of the few activities I can be
coaxed out of the house to do. I could make my own coffee
and talk to Gen on the phone, but that wouldn't be nearly
as enjoyable. We've been doing this for years. Okay, a
little over 1 year. It's an institution! Even when we've
got so many kids in tow, we have to reserve the entire
Starbucks just for our families. We'll still be doing it!

Snookums called me a little before 2pm to let me know he
was on his way home. The girls and I came home soon after,
so Kiki could take her nap. After which, we went out for a
little while.

The one thing I did want to do today was get some more
books to read (I've been reading much more these days, I'm
happy to say). So, we stopped at Value Village, because I
like their selection. It's a win:win situation. I got 6
books for under $20, the money goes to charity and I can
turn around and re-donate them when I'm done. The books
have an infinite life that way. It's such a green thing to
do, I know.

Snookums decided today was going to be the day we got a
new fish. So, before we left the house we set up the tank
again. Putting in the new gravel I bought, changing out
the filter and conditioning the water. I'll never forget
Courtney, but it was time to move on. We went to Petco,
but they're in the middle of a wide-spread Ick epidemic. I
can't say I'm surprised. Mohawk came to us with Ick.
Courtney contracted it. Now their entire population has
it! That solves that mystery. The girls were disappointed,
so we decided to take them to Petsmart (which is nicer
anyway and has a bigger selection). We settled on a very
feisty fantail, who is the most metallic gold I've ever
seen. He's very healthy. We've decided he's a boy, but I'm
still not sure what his name will be. I considered Finias
(get it? Fin?) and Aurum (Latin for 'made of gold'), but
Snookums didn't like either of those. So, it's back to the
drawing board. It'll come to me. Or I'll let Annie name
him. She named Courtney.

I'm thinking now would be a good time to take one of those
new books and park myself in a hot bath for awhile. It's
going to be hard deciding which one to read first. I'll
let Snookie pick. Ciao for now.

P.S. I just noticed the most popular diaries list has been
updated. Thanks to all you guys that must be reading this.
I think I'm pretty damn boring...
