My Life Thus Far

On A Sunday Afternoon

It's 1pm on a Sunday afternoon. It's sunny, so Annie high-
tailed it out of here almost as soon as I showed my face
this morning. Basically, "here's Kiki, I'm going outside
to play". I'm not complaining, though. In this day and age
it's a blessing to have a child that WANTS to go outside
and play. I consider myself lucky that we've gotten this
far into Annie's life without the introduction of any
video gaming devices in our house (Nintendo, PlayStation,
Wii, and the rest). Is it possible to raise a boy without
video games? Because, if it isn't then I definitely want
another girl. Okay. This whole paragraph is random, but I
guess it needed to be said.

Snookums had duty today. Now that the ship is officially
done with all the maintenance work they needed to finish,
they'll be on Stennis hours the majority of the time
(nice), but will also have 4 section duty (not so nice).
What that means is, he'll have duty every 4 days. Snookums
might be working a little more than the other QM's,
because he's trying to be extra good and butter up his
higher-ups in the hopes that they'll let him miss this
next underway period the end of April. His chief got to
miss last week's movements because his wife had a
scheduled c-section a few days before the ship left.
Honestly, I don't think Jason will be as lucky, because
that isn't my luck. It's my lot in life to struggle. I
accept that. So, therefore I'll be having this baby
without him. Knowing my luck, nothing will go well, but it
will be just not-serious enough that the Navy won't let
him come home.

I'm preparing for the worst. For me a worst-case scenario
would be an emergency c-section after struggling through
labor, extra time in the hospital, long-term illness (on
the baby's part) and a long painful recovery for myself.
I'm not worried, per se. I'm expecting the worst and
hoping for the best. I find that's the most stress-free
approach to almost everything. If you're expecting the
worst to happen, then you won't be surprised when it does.
Anything less than the worst is a relief.

It looks like Kiki is going to take her nap a little early
today. That's okay. I'll take advantage of this little
blessing and take a shower without worrying about her
raiding the fridge and finger painting in ketchup. Then
I'll do the itty-bitty tiny little basket of laundry I've
already sorted into my nifty new baskets. Then I'll
FINALLY get around to organizing my desk. We'll see
tonight how much of this I actually accomplish :) Ciao.
