My Life Thus Far

Hardly An Eternity

***

Snookums has been gone 6 hours so far and already I miss
him. I'm not devastated, but I was sad to see him go. It's
only for 5 days, though. Hardly an eternity. The girls and
I will get into our usual routine and the time will fly
by.

Our Easter was good. The girls went to bed late (for them)
last night, so they slept in this morning. That was great.
We didn't have Kiki knocking at our door at 6am. We got to
sleep all the way until 10am! We basically just lounged
around all day. Snookums watched Animal Planet with the
girls, I read my book. I made our Easter meal early and we
ate a little after 3pm. Then we took a nap until it was
time for Snookums to leave for the ship.

Having Snookums leave wasn't as hard as it's been in the
past. I think because I know and Annie understands that it
isn't for long. She's old enough to grasp the concept of
time. Kiki still doesn't understand any more than daddy
walked out the door and she can't see him anymore. So, she
cried as she always does when he leaves. She does know
daddy works on a ship, but she doesn't really understand
what that entails.

I have projects to keep me busy this week. I still need to
finish hanging a few odd pictures here and there. For the
most part, that's done I just have detail work to finish.
I want to clean off my desk, get it organized and put to
use the two sets of drawers I bought a couple weeks ago.
Ross always has inexpensive chests of drawers in sea grass
or wicker. I picked up a couple to help keep my paper
clutter out of sight. So, I want to get that done. I think
I'll go ahead and get Kiki a twin sized bed, since she's
taken to jumping on her toddler bed and making it
collapse. It only has a 50 pound weight limit (it's the
crib without sides on it) and she jumps violently on it,
making the flimsy plywood bottom come out, which then
makes the foot and head boards come off. I don't want her
getting hurt or breaking the crib. We're planning on using
it again. I also wanted to transplant my garden outside,
but with the issue going on with the neighbor's dog, I
think I'll hold off on that. If that damn dog were to dig
up or trample my garden, I'd have to kill him.

Speaking of the neighbors dog. Snookums went over this
morning to let them know he got got in our yard last
night. Turns out, he's already done it to the other side
of the fence and snapped at their 3 year old daughter,
who's always playing in her back yard. They barricaded
that hole, so he moved on to our yard. Great. The wife
hates the puppy (the one causing all the trouble) and
wants to get rid of it, because she's pregnant. They just
haven't found a good home for it yet. When they left
today, he came back over into our yard twice. I didn't do
anything about it. Snookums was home the first time and
went back over to tell them (but of course, they were
gone). Snookums had left already the second time he came
over and they still weren't home, so I didn't do anything
about it and he went back the way he came. I'm a little
irritated they hadn't addressed the hole under the fence
once they knew he'd created it. I'm not above calling
Animal Control if this keeps up. They could put him on a
leash or a dog run if digging is a chronic problem for
him, as it appears to be.

I still need to clean the kitchen. It's a mess from
dinner, but I didn't want Snookums using his little bit of
precious time with us cleaning the kitchen. It's already
almost midnight, but I'm nocturnal and probably won't be
able to sleep anyway. I think I'll clean the kitchen, take
a nice bath (maybe read a little) then try to sleep.
Sounds like a plan. Ciao until tomorrow.
