My Life Thus Far

Now I'm Alpha Cat

****

I wanted to write earlier. I had it all planned out. While
my cornbread and baked chicken were in the oven, I was
going to jot down a quick entry, but that didn't work out.
Annie used the computer earlier in the evening to do her
keyboarding homework (she's amazed by my speed and wants
to be just as fast as me...80wpm last time I checked.
Thanks to the daily diary entries). I'm not sure who to
blame, Annie or Kiki, but when I came to use the computer,
the Internet Explorer desktop icon wouldn't work, the
mouse wheel wouldn't scroll and the keyboard wouldn't
type. So, the 30 free minutes I had between putting dinner
in the oven and taking it out were spent troubleshooting,
instead. So, here I am now. An hour later, after dinner
has been served, eaten and the girls are off to bed. Mommy
and Daddy will be off to bed soon, too.

I didn't have a very productive day. My only real
accomplishments were bringing in the garbage and recycling
cans, checking the mail and making dinner. I'm okay with
that, though. Sometimes you just need a quiet day at home.
Tomorrow will be a busier day. Kiki has therapy, I have
things I want to get done around the house and then I have
to work. Snookums has duty, so Selena (the girls' sitter
from back in my clubbing days) will hopefully be coming to
watch them. We'll have to see how that goes. Selena also
works at VS and our shifts overlap a little bit tomorrow.
Hopefully whoever's the manager on duty won't mind if
Selena leaves a little early or if I come a little late.
We'll cross that bridge when we get there.

I was disappointed when I went to check the mail today.
Neither Snookums nor I have received our new check cards.
They said 7-10 business days and it's been that and then
some. I only worry because we pay our bills online and I
can't pay the car payment (due on the 20th) without it. I
don't want to have to Western Union another bill. That
costs extra money. Which so isn't fair. I shouldn't have
to pay extra just to pay my bills on time. Stupid bank.

Today, I was forced into doing something I didn't want to
do. I had to become alpha cat in my household. Zoe is
driving me insane. She's so bad, I didn't know a cat was
capable of being so destructive and badly behaved. Her
latest trick is climbing curtains. The curtains I
painstakingly picked out for each room. I knew she'd been
doing it by the little pin-hole claw marks in the fabric,
but today I watched her get a running start and then
launch herself into my bedroom curtains. She hung on,
spread eagle then started climbing up. Rage took over and
I snatched her down by her scruff and pinned her to the
floor. We've tried everything short of declawing her to
keep her from clawing the furniture, climbing tablecloths
and curtains. Then there's the jumping on the counter,
eating people's food, chewing on plants, etc. She's just
so bad. So, now I'm alpha cat. I hiss at her and make
myself big whenever she's a millisecond away from doing
something bad. It seems to be working. She's been much
better since I took over. I was hoping Zeus would teach
her some manners, but it's been months and he's still
taking the passive role. He runs from her and pretends she
isn't here. Not much help. She WILL become a well behaved
cat. If it kills her.

Snookums is ready to go to bed. I don't know if I'm ready,
but I'll try. I need sleep. Ciao for now.
