2 Vaginal Exams

***

I haven't felt very good today. Annie didn't make it to
her early morning class and unfortunately Kiki didn't make
it to therapy, either. I felt a little bad about that, but
I just wasn't feeling up to it this morning. We had a
lengthy conversation her and I. I'm sure one day won't
kill her.

Not only was I not feeling well, but mentally I was
feeling a little down in the dumps all day too. Kind of
numb. Not really sad or unhappy, but not happy either.
Just blah. Then there was the physical pain. Which tipped
me a little towards the bitchy side. I had errands I
needed to run. I needed to take care of some bills and
Snookums asked me to pick up a mattress cover for his rack
on the ship. He needs it by tomorrow. I struggled through
pain to get them done, but by the time Snookums called me
around 3pm, I'd had enough.

I think I mentioned that I've been fighting a urinary
tract infection this week. Since Monday pretty much. Well,
it took a turn for the worse today. Partially because I
thought I'd taken care of it sufficiently and stopped
drinking the excess water I had been. I'd been having
contractions all day and my lower back and abdomen were
hurting. So, Snookums came home a little early so I could
go in and have it taken care of.

Labor and Delivery is the pregnant woman's ER at Naval
Hospital, which is great because there's never a crowd,
you get prompt care and you still get to use the emergency
room button at the pharmacy. I called ahead, told them my
symptoms and of course they told me to come right in. When
I got there they had me give a urine sample, then hooked
me up to the fetal monitor. The baby's heart rate was in
the upper 140's, low 150's, unless I had a contraction,
then it dipped a little lower. Because I was having
contractions, they decided to do a speculum exam. My
cervix is high and anterior (towards the front), which
makes it hard to see if it's open or closed, so I had to
have a manual exam, too. My cervix is closed nice and
tight, so all is well in that department. All my vaginal
cultures came back clean, so I just got antibiotics for
the UTI. It's spread a little beyond my bladder, so it's
good I went in. Had it gotten to my kidneys I would have
had to be hospitalized. I think that was their way of
chastising me for not coming in sooner. What can I say,
I'm a wife and mother. I come last.

When I got home from the hospital, I made breakfast for
dinner. Pancakes, eggs, sausage. That's what I wanted, so
that's what we had. I figured I deserved it after 2
vaginal exams :)

Okay, bedtime now. Ciao until later.
