My Life Thus Far
Our Day Of Appointments
***
If I weren't in so much FREAKING pain, I would have had a
great day. Even though it was insanely busy. It started at
6am this morning. I had to get up early so I could have
Zoe at the vet in time for surgery at 8am. Nothing
serious. She was just getting spayed. Turns out she has
tape worms, too. Contracted from ingesting a flea that was
infected with the larvae. I don't know how some people can
consider fleas a simple nuisance and let their animals
have them. I couldn't imagine that. We got rid of them as
soon as we got her and realized she had them, yet she
still got sick. It turns my stomach, but anyway. It's
resolved. One pill and she'll be okay. The surgery went
well. She's already up to her old tricks, even though
she's not supposed to be.
After dropping Zoe off, we dropped Annie off at school,
then headed to Naval Hospital to start our day of
appointments. I had to go to the lab first for my blood
glucose testing. My sugar is generally low. Sure enough,
it was on the low side now. 98. I'm not sure what that
means, but I'm sure a diabetic would. Or someone that
knows something about it. This check-up was a little bit
of a downer. The baby's heart rate is good and my weight
gain is under, which is good, but I'm measuring way bigger
than I should. I'm 26 weeks, but measuring at 29
centimeters. 3 weeks ahead of where I should be. So, my
doctor put the consult in for an ultrasound not to find
out the sex (Jason's only reasoning for an ultrasound),
but to make sure the baby is doing okay. He told me I
wasn't likely to get Polyhydroamniosis again, but here it
looks like it's happening again. I just hope the baby is
okay. So many things could be wrong, yet nothing could be
wrong at all. It's scary.
We went to lunch at Applebee's during our break between
appointments. We thought we'd lucked out and gotten a nice
secluded corner of the restaurant, but just as we got our
food a troop of old people came in from one of the nearby
nursing homes. We were pinned in the corner by wheelchairs
and walkers. I don't much like old people, but I tried not
to be irritated by it. Just as we were leaving, one of the
old ladies got Kiki's attention. Kiki smiled at her and
did something so unlike her. She walked over to the lady
and gave her a hug. All you could hear was a chorus
of "ahhhhs", because all the old people thought it was so
cute. It was cute, but so not like Kiki. I hope it isn't
an omen or something. Like, the lady is going to keel over
or something.
Our last appointment was Kiki's. It was just a simple
consult with her pediatrician to get her tongue clipped.
We basically sat there while she put the order in the
computer. She checked Kiki's ears to see if they were
healing well, then sent us on our way to immunization to
get flu shots (with a little chastising for not having
done it sooner). I thought I'd gotten out of getting one
this year, but no. Kiki was lucky. They gave her the mist
up the nose, but I had to endure the Biojector air gun,
which I think is more painful than any traditional shot in
the world. My entire left arm hurts like crazy. Just
moving it hurts.
Our last stop in the hospital was the pharmacy to pick up
Kiki's allergy meds. Zyrtec. We waited for 45 minutes only
to be told that they didn't have any in stock. What the
hell? I was a little upset about that. I know Zyrtec is
available over the counter now, but not in a liquid form
for children. They should never run out of medicines.
That's just stupid.
The three of us (Snookums, me and Kiki) came home and took
a nap until Annie got home from school, then we all went
to pick up Zoe. I got really embarrassed, because when I
went to pay, my card was declined. I'm sorry, but there
really is very little more embarrassing in the world than
your card being declined. I'd rather walk around with my
skirt tucked in my panties. So, I wrote a check but it
drove me crazy all the way home, wondering why my card
wasn't accepted. I checked our balance. We still have
close to $6,000 left. Turns out our check cards have a
daily limit of $2,500 and with our shopping spree, car
insurance and other expenses all posting on the same day
we exceeded that. I knew there was no way we could have
blown through so much money so quickly! I nearly had a
heart attack.
My back pain is monumental right now. My sciatic nerve is
being pinched and my pelvis is really sore. It isn't being
helped by the fact that I didn't get more than 3 hours of
sleep last night. I need to rest it at night so I can move
during the day. Snookie just gave me some Tylenol PM. I'm
going to eat my salad and go to bed. I can't sleep in
tomorrow. Kiki has therapy, but I'm going to bed early
tonight! Ciao.
