My Life Thus Far

One Single Gunshot

****

I had a great day. I'm tired and I'm glad it's coming to
an end, but it was good. If I weren't getting tired and if
I didn't have a headache, it could go on forever. Okay,
maybe not.

I thought I'd sleep in late this morning. It's the one
thing I miss most weekdays. The ability to sleep as late
as I want to. But, that didn't happen. For some reason
Snookums and I woke up around 6:30am. I'm not sure why he
woke up, but I know I woke up because he had a full-blow
erection poking me in the butt, giving me a wedgie. I
didn't feel like having sex, but I let him because it was
just easier than trying to gently put him down. We went
back to sleep for awhile after that.

We woke up again a little before 11am. The girls were
watching tv in the living room. Neither of them are
feeling well. Annie is quiet (which is how I know she's
sick) and Kiki is clingy (more so than usual). They were
intertwined together under my fleece blanket on the couch.
They were so cute :)

When your children are sick, you're first instinct is to
make them feel better. Maybe give them medication. I've
never been big on giving the girls medicine. I never
thought it did much good. Now doctors are starting to
agree with me. Some even think it's harmful. So, I stifled
the urge to give them Motrin or cold medicine. They laid
there for awhile, until the life started to come back to
them.

Snookums wanted to go out to lunch and we needed to stop
by Petco to get a pivotal part of Annie's science project.
So, we did the Chinese buffet (of course. It's a family
favorite. Except for me, but I've learned to sacrifice).
Then went to Petco.

Sometimes I think Snookums is just as much a child as the
children are. Annie's science project is to see what a
goldfish will do if you put a mirror in front of it. They
have a cute little 1.5 gallon tank kit that comes with
everything you need (minus the fish), which I thought
would be the perfect set-up for her. Snookums however,
didn't want a goldfish, he wanted something cooler. A Koi
or a Betta. He was throwing such a hissy fit, because I
told him it wasn't about his wants. It was about Annie.
Then, I saw an Petco Pals member's advertisement for a
Betta aquarium that was too good to pass up. A female and
a male Betta and the aquarium for $9.99. The fish alone
were $6.49 each, so I figured for that price, he could
have them. Now they're both happy.

Have you ever been in the wrong place at the wrong time?
The really, wrong time? That happened to me tonight.
Annie's aquarium came with everything...accept gravel.
Does that make any sense? It came with plants, but no
gravel. So, I ran out to get some. I tried QFC, they
didn't have any fish supplies. Safeway didn't carry
anything but water conditioner and food. So, I decided I
was resigned to going back to Petco. It didn't have any
closer to home options. I got lucky, though and spotted a
new Dollar Store that had just opened on Wheaton Way (way,
way in the ghetto). I got some decorating marbles there
that are perfect and then I stopped across the street at
Popeye's to get dinner. Just as I was coming out of the
drive thru, before I could put up my window, there was a
gunshot. Someone yelled "get the fuck down!" and some
people hanging around outside Popeye's dropped to the
ground. I didn't see anything, so I figured it would be
okay if I got the hell out of there. As soon as traffic
permitted, I pulled out quickly. I realize that parts of
Bremerton aren't the greatest, but that isn't something
you expect to witness in a city with only 37,000 people.
Seattle, yeah. Bremerton? Not really. I just kept thinking
about how fortunate I was that everything was okay. At
least, I think it was. I didn't see anyone hurt or hit.
Just one single gunshot. I don't understand people
sometimes. Why was that necessary?

War of the Worlds is on ABC. I haven't seen it before and
it keeps grabbing my attention. I think I'll go watch it.
Ciao for now.
