My Life Thus Far
Polyhydroamniosis
****
I don't have to work until 1pm today! Whoo-hoo! That
doesn't mean my morning is empty, but 4 hours at work is a
nice break from the usual 6 or 8. Even though I like VS, I
still like my freedom, too.
I've got hot rollers in my hair, so I needed to kill some
time until I take them out. That would be why I'm writing.
I have nothing better to be doing. Other than watching
Playhouse Disney with Kiki. She's dancing to Dan Zane's
House Party, which is really cute :) I don't think I'll
mind spending more time with her, when I change my
availability. She's getting cuter with age. Which is
funny. Annie didn't. She's a pain in the butt now.
Last night, the baby gave me a kick I really noticed. It
squirms and wiggles all the time and I notice it, but it
doesn't stop me from whatever it is I'm doing. It's like
having a swarm of butterflies in your stomach most of the
time, but last night, it stopped me in my tracks. Ouch. It
hurt a little. Not in a horribly painful way, just... wow.
Which got me thinking about when I was pregnant with Kiki.
I had a condition called polyhydroamniosis, which is a
huge word meaning too much amniotic fluid. I didn't give
it too much thought at the time, while I was pregnant with
Kiki, because they didn't even tell me I had it until I
was days away from my due date. I started to wonder if it
was something random, that just sort of happened for no
apparent reason, or if there's a chance it could happen
again. I absolutely hated all the medical intervention I
was forced to receive because of it and I'd like to avoid
that experience again at all costs. So, I Googled it to
see what I could find. Nothing. That's pretty much what I
found. Basically, it's idiopathic (doesn't have an obvious
cause or reason for occurring, usually), although they did
make a connection between it and something being wrong
with the baby, but it's still rare. I think the study I
read it was present in 95 of almost 4,000 pregnancies they
tracked. That makes sense in Kiki's situation. They didn't
really know why I had it, but Kiki wasn't doing so great
when she came out.
In a round-about way I ended up Googling myself, because
one of the top 10 search results was the diary entry
(Annie and Kiki would be the title, if you're interested
in researching my entries) where I mentioned the big P
word the first time. Snookums thought that was pretty
cool. As big as the web is, I still stumbled across
myself. I think I'll write myself a note or something and
ask my doctor about it next week. Since I can't educate
myself online. Well, I think my hair is done. Ciao.
