Wedding Photographer #3

This is the third one we tried.

Originally written 9/19/2007:

We checked out another wedding photographer today, and I
wasn't very impressed. As soon as we walked through the
door I was almost knocked down by the smell of cigarette
smoke. To be perfectly honest, I should have turned around
and walked out right then because that was enough to make
me not want to hire them. All I could think about was the
photographer leaning on the church, taking a drag off a
cigarette. To me, it just seemed very unprofessional.

But we didn't walk out, we sat down and listened to the
pitch. I'm starting to see that a lot of wedding
photographers are alike. This is the third one we have
visited and I am hearing and seeing a lot of the same
things. I know that weddings are similar, and some
pictures and poses can't help but be reproduced. I am not
talking about the pictures, I am talking about the
process. It seems like they take the pictures, touch them
up (some charge for this and some don't), then send them
off to a "professional" processor. A few weeks later you
get a proof book (how many is determined by the package
you pick), then you pick out any more copies you want and
order them. I don't want to offend the photographers out
there, but it seems like wedding photography has turned
into a quick, easy to put together small business that
doesn't require as much professionalism as it used to. The
lady we talked to today had no creativity whatsoever with
her photographs. What has happened to the person who loves
to take pictures, takes pride in their work and wants to
make a special event out of a wedding? I guess we'll just
have to keep looking.

Now, if you will excuse me, I'm going to take a shower and
change clothes so I can get rid of the cigarette smoke
that has permeated my clothing and hair.
