The Grown-Up Excuse

I will remember that when the hard way presents itself, it
is only one side of things and doesn't deserve my
attention.

Jim McGregor

Thank you everyone for the advice on what to do about Kiki
and her new-found interest. I've decided I'll still let
her shower with me, but when Snookums and I are in there
together, no baby allowed. I'm weirded out by my baby
playing with "it" like it's a slinky.

Even though the day didn't go quite as planned, it was
still fun. Originally, we were going to go clamming. We'd
checked the tides last night, figured out what time we
should leave, got a lunch packed and everything. But, when
we got there this morning, it wasn't as we'd expected. The
tide went out like it was supposed to, but it never got
down to the good clamming area. You know, the sandy-mud
area with no rocks? We were slightly bummed. Snookums more
so than me, I don't eat the bastards, but I love digging
in the sand (a quality both of my daughters have gotten
from me). Clamming is the grown-up excuse for digging in
the sand.

Even though it was a moderately overcast and not-so-warm
day, we still had a great day at the beach. We dressed in
sweats and laid out a big blanket in the sand. Snookums
and I sprawled out on the blanket while the girls dug in
the sand beside us. The wind was blowing nice and cool,
with touches of sun to warm us. It was very nice. Even if
we never did get to clam. Snookums, somehow, being as
white as he is. Managed to get a sunburn even though it
was only in the low 60's and mostly overcast. I find that
hilarious. I know you get exposed to ultraviolet rays even
on overcast days, but I've never seen anyone get a bad
sunburn from it. His entire face is beet red. Including
his neck and even his lower arms. The part not covered by
his shirt! Poor guy.

After we left the beach, we stopped off at the Clearwater
Casino. They have a really good buffet there. So, we had
that for breakfast/lunch and then came home.

Even though we didn't go in the water, I still felt a
little icky from the sand. We took showers and just hung
out for awhile. Later, we went back out to have dinner
with Gen and Sam (I can't forget Cyrus, too). We've been
trying to do that for the past few days. I'm glad we were
finally able to hook up.

Even though tomorrow is a holiday, I must return to work.
I'm not complaining. I enjoyed my mini vacation and I'm
eager to get back to what I love to do. I wouldn't have
minded one more day off, though. Snookums goes back to
work on Tuesday and Annie heads back to school. Life
returns to normal. I'm looking forward to it. Ciao and
goodnight.
