What The Hell Was Going On?

****

An essential part of the process of healing has to do with
going into the shadow aspects of ourselves-the aspects
that, out of fear, we have denied, disowned, or
suppressed. Beginning in a gradual, safe, and comfortable
way, we can accept and include them. Then, by allowing
them their natural expression, we start 6to become more
fully integrated human beings.

I can't believe how fucked up today was. I've been in a
good mood all day, but it seemed like around every corner
something shitty was going down. It started this morning
and progressed all through the day. Now, as I sit here, a
little after 8:30pm, I reflect on my day and wonder, what
the hell was going on? I must have slipped into the
twilight zone, or something.

Incident #1

As I was merging onto the highway after dropping the girls
off, on my way to work, I positioned myself so that I
could safely enter traffic. I had a Chevy pick-up in front
of me and about 4 car lengths behind the Chevy was a
little Pruis. I sped up to slip in between them, but the
Prius had other plans and sped up so that we were neck and
neck. Both of us traveling in the same lane! I had not
choice but to go onto the shoulder because she left me
with nowhere to go and if I'd slowed down, I would have
been ran over. Why was that necessary, I ask you? What's
so horrible about letting someone into traffic. It wasn't
like I was cutting them off. I brushed it off, after I got
my heart out of my chest. Some people are just assholes.

Incident #2

Brittany (one of the CSL's) and I were up at the
registers. She was checking a lady out and I was cleaning
up the cash wrap. The lady picked up a lip plumper and
asked Brittany what it was for. Brittany said "It's lip
plumper, it has collagen in it and it fills in the lines
in your lips". The lady then said "I don't need lip
plumper, I have lips like a negro". Then she looked at me
and said "Oh, I'm sorry. I like Negroes, you are very
beautiful". I didn't know what to say, so I just walked
away. Brittany had a look of shock and panic on her face.
She probably thought I was going to do something to the
lady, but what do you do to ignorance? It's like slapping
a stupid person for being stupid. They wouldn't know what
you were slapping them for anyway. I don't think I even
look black. I don't know, you be the judge.

Incident #3

Nothing major or anything, but I was made to stay for an
on-call I wasn't even scheduled for. I was supposed to be
off at 3pm, but around 1pm, Tamara came out of the office
and said to me "We're using your on-call, so go ahead and
take you lunch". I looked at her like "what"? I wasn't
scheduled for an on-call, but because they needed a couple
extra people for brand guide last night (brand guide just
means setting up fixtures with new products, the new
garden packaging to be precise) they were short staffed on
the floor this afternoon. I was a little irritated by
that. Not because I was being made to work, I like work. I
was just upset that I wasn't told in advance or even given
the option to object. What if I'd had plans? That was just
poor planning on their parts.

Incident #4

A lady came up to my register with 4 bras and a nighty. As
I always do, I offered her the angel card. Especially
since she had such a big purchase and the angels card has
a points system and cash back rewards. She said no thank
you the first time, so I said "are you sure, you get..."
at that point she interrupted me and said "when I said no
the first time, I meant it". In a very bitchy tone. So, I
stopped talking to her and bit my tongue. She seemed upset
about something, so at the end of the transaction, I
smiled at her, handed her her bag and said, I hope you
have a good day. Then, she snapped at me and said "my day
was fine until you tried to shove a credit card down my
throat!" Kim, one of the other managers said to her "come
on now, she's just doing her job", but at that point I was
just done. I let it go, but I won't lie. When I went on my
break, I was hoping I'd see her in the mall. I so wanted
to rip her a new asshole (outside of the store) for being
such a bitch. I really was just doing my job.

And last, but not least: Incident #5

An older lady and her daughter came in to return 5 bras.
She had no receipt and had boughten the bras months ago.
So, they had all gone on sale. Drastically, by like 50 and
75%. She felt that even though she didn't have the
receipt, she still deserved to get the full price back. I
tried explaining to her that without a receipt, the
company didn't know when she bought them and would only
give her the lowest sale price. There was no way for me or
my manager to override that. It's all done by the
computer. She started yelling at me, telling me how unfair
it was, how much money she was losing and there had to be
something done. I didn't know what to say to her and Kim
was of no help. She basically just told the lady "sorry"
and left me on my own. So, after about an hour of digging
through the sale bins, I was able to find her a
replacement for all the bras she wanted to exchange in the
style she wanted to exchange them for. She was happy and I
was finally able to clock off and get the hell out of
there.

Selena worked with me today and was witness to a lot of
the goings-on, so she said she'd watch the girls tonight,
so I could get out and I couldn't be more grateful. In
fact, I'm going now to get showered and dressed, because I
need to unwind! Ciao until tomorrow.
