My Life Thus Far
Magic Ho'ohiki
****
If you were wondering. That would be my stripper name if I
were a stripper. One of the many fun and exciting games we
played at Gen's baby shower tonight. The name of my first
pet (Magic, a mean fat cat) and the street I lived on at
the time (ho'ohiki place. Pronounced hoe-hiki. Hawaiian
for promise). Interesting. I'll keep it in mind if I ever
choose to enter that particular profession.
My day was good. Day 1 of no work. 3 more to go. What am I
going to do the rest of the week? I've got a doctor's
appointment first thing in the morning, but what then?
Maybe I'll clean my already clean house. Or take care of
my fairly empty laundry basket. Keeping on top of it
really does help, actually.
Gen and I spent the morning together. We did our Starbucks
thing, then Gen accompanied me to the Commissary. I needed
to go to Bangor to get something they don't have at the
Bremerton one. I don't understand why they have different
inventories. They're literally 10 miles apart. You'd think
it would be easier to stock the same things at both of
them.
After that, I dropped Gen off at home, did some shower
shopping for her, then I went home. I didn't have much
time to do anything other than wrap her gifts when I got
home. My mother-in-law Sue sent us a package, so I
unpacked that. She sent me my birthday present. A pearl
and diamond circle pendant in gold. I used to love gold,
now my first though when I opened it was "oh, pretty. I
wish is was white gold, or even silver". Selfish, I know.
But when you're used to your in-laws sending you pricey
gifts, you get accustomed to it and it loses it's novelty.
Gen's shower was pretty fun. At first I was uncomfortable
(as I always am in new social situations). I didn't want
to go, but I did it for Gen, because she's my best friend
and I figured if I wasn't the one throwing the shower, I
should at least go to the shower. I tried to get her
thoughtful gifts and even some she could use (I almost
kept the bottle of Malibu coconut rum to myself)! I hope
she liked them. It kind of sucked that 3 of us ended up
getting them the same gift because Target's registry thing
didn't work right, or people didn't use it right.
Whatever. I kept my receipt.
I'm exhausted now. I'm so ready to sleep, which is good
since I've got that doctor's appointment in 8 and a half
hours. I'd better mosey off to bed now, if I want to be
even remotely friendly to the psychologist (not to be
confused with Dr. Martin, my psychiatrist). I'm sleepy.
Did I say that already? Well, Ciao until tomorrow.
