His Impending Departure

*****

I had a great day. I willed myself to have a great day,
and it was so. I slept well last night, got up on time.
Went to the gym, worked out, had coffee and lunch with
Snookums, then went to work. Work went well. It was quiet,
laid back and easy. It was nice having a calm day for once
after all the hustle of holiday and semi-annual shoppers.
Semi-annual is still going on, but it's tapering off. Most
people have gotten their shopping done.

Snookums and I talked about his impending departure while
having coffee this morning. One week to go. We've decided,
neither of us want to make a big production the morning he
leaves. I'm not seeing him off at the pier. We're not even
going to say goodbye. It will be like every other morning
(or as much as it can be). Snookums will drive himself to
work, park the truck in his usual spot and then Gen and
Sam can pick it up from there. All the preparations we've
been making really makes his leaving feel more like his
death. It's so sad. I'm not letting it get to me just yet,
but it's going to be so incredibly hard. The first month
is going to be hell.

After coffee, we had lunch at Red Robin. I haven't been
concerned with money or how much we've been eating out, or
how many calories I've been eating. I just want to enjoy
Snookums and make sure he's enjoying himself while he can.
Food on the ship sucks (so I've heard) and it'll be awhile
before he gets anything else. Anyway, lunch was nice.
Afterward, I went to work and Snookums came home.

Well, that's all folks. Unfortunately, good days don't
leave me a whole lot of writing material. Bad days make
better entries, but I'd rather bore my readers than have
stimulating novel-fodder. Ciao.
