Stinging Envy and Peaceful Silence

****

Snookums had yet another follow-up appointment at Madigan
this morning. All is well, thankfully. His toe is no
longer infected and he's been cleared for deployment. Not
what he was hoping for, but he knew it was coming. Traffic
getting there and coming back was very light. We made it
home by 10am (his appointment was at 9am)! Under 45
minutes must be a record.

When we walked in the door, I checked the answering
machine and saw that there was a message (it blinks).
Turns out it was Kim (a manager). Brittany called in sick
and she needed someone to come in to cover for her. I
wasn't supposed to go in until 2pm, but since the only
thing I had planned for the morning was to take a nap on
the couch, I decided "what the hell, it's more money for
my pocket"!

We had crowds on and off all day. We're in a transition
period between holiday clearance and semi-annual, which
means mark-downs, mark-downs, mark-downs. Things are on
sale that weren't yesterday, half of the shit on sale
isn't ringing up on sale. Stuff that wasn't on sale
anymore was still ringing up on sale. It was rediculous.
Corporate should have it all figured out by the 3rd, but
until then, it's going to be crazy. I've already gotten my
semi-annual shopping down. Everything else from this point
on is just icing on the cake. I don't have to fight the
throngs of women looking for the deals. Associates get
dibs! I love my job...

We went out to Chinese for dinner. I don't know why, but
I'm CRAVING meat for the fist time since...Ever? I never
crave meat. So, its strange that I was watching Kiki
shovel fist-fulls of poached salmon into her mouth with
stinging envy. My mouth was watering and I was seriously
weighing the pros and cons of just eating the damn fish.
Fish has never given me much gastrointestinal problem. I
just stopped eating it because it's meat and vegetarians
don't eat meat. What on earth is a girl to do? Needless to
say, I didn't eat the fish.

I'm so ready for bed now. Last night, Snookums and I spent
a couple of hours laying in our bed, co-existing in
peaceful silence. He did my crossword puzzles, I
crocheted. It was lovely. I want to do it again tonight
before I fall asleep. Ciao.
