Paranoia-Driven Busy Work

***

"The void, shunyata, among the four fundamental Buddhist
notions (the three others being impermanence,
interdependence, and suffering) is certainly the most
mysterious and hard to grasp. What is this immense edifice
of experience and thought that in the end only opens up on
an absence of substance? What would be the foundation of
that edifice and of the mind that built it?

If the void is the only reality that isn't illusory, who
escapes the net of all maya? Who has cast this net? Can
one live over a dizzying void? Can we imagine a dream
without a dreamer? The void is a scientific notion. We are
empty; the matter that composes us is, so to speak, empty."

Whatever

Today sucked. Nothing bad happened, really. It was just a
sucky, boring (but kinda busy day. I'm sure had I been so
inclined, I could have done something to make it less
sucky. But why? It would have required me to get dressed,
get the girls dressed, think of something to do, drive
somewhere and then have to deal with two children while
doing it. I could have done something, but I didn't want
to. I had plenty of paranoia-driven busy work to do,
anyway.

The mayonnaise treatment seems to have done some good. I
washed out 7 more dead lice from Annie's head this morning
(yeah, I actually did leave the shit on for 12 hours!). I
watched the little black specks flow down the drain with
the milky-white water. It was nasty, but I was happy to
see them coming out. If you'd have asked me yesterday, I
would of said I was sure I'd gotten them all out, but I
hadn't. After washing her hair with dandruff shampoo (this
is suppose to kill the lice and eggs, because they don't
like zinc and most dandruff shampoos are zinc oxide or
pyrithione zinc), I rinsed it out with white vinegar and
left that on all day (it's suppose to loosen the glue the
nits are cemented on with). Tonight, before I put her to
bed, I washed her hair again with the dandruff shampoo,
nit-searched and destroyed (I only found a few), rubbed
her scalp with olive oil (lice hate olive oil and either
move out or never move in) and then blew dry her hair with
as much heat as her little scalp could handle, for as long
as she could handle. I even took a moment to trim her
split ends (tomorrow is picture day) and I must admit, the
girl has some gorgeous hair when I take the time to groom
it (other than throwing it up in a pony tail and rushing
out the door). Maybe if I take the extra 5 minutes each
morning to blow her hair out, I'll be able to stop this
from happening again? I don't know, but if that's what
it'll take, I'll do it! I've been putting a little olive
oil in Kiki's hair and amazingly, she's clean. Which is
wonderful, becuase she usually picks up more nasty things
than a truck stop toilet seat on a Friday night! If Kiki
got away with no lice and spends so much time in close
proximity to Annie, then it's unlikely that I got any,
right? The only time I come in contact with Annie's hair
is when I brush it in the morning, but I always do my hair
first, then her's and we never share a brush or pony
holders. I know better than that! I know so much more
about lice than I ever thought I'd want or need to know.
How sad.

Enough about the nasty lice. I'm sick of lice. They're
taking over my life! I'm hungry. I haven't eaten since
10am (it's now after 8pm) because I've been so busy
cleaning the house, washing clothes and de-lousing Annie.
Today sucked. Did I mention that? Ciao. I hope tomorrow is
a better day.
