Wearing Mayo

***

"Exile has helped me. When, at some point in our lives, we
meet a real tragedy-which could happen to any one of us-we
can eact in two ways. Obvioulsly, we can lose hope, let
ourselves slip into discouragement, into alcohol, drugs,
and unending sadness. Or else we can wake ourselves up,
discover in ourselves an energy that was hidden there, and
act with more clarity, more force."

As I write this, I sit with a shower cap on my head. My
head covered in hot mayonnaise. Why, you ask? Because I
FOUND 18 LIVING LICE ON ANNIE'S HEAD. I wanted to check
her head to see if there were any nits still left over
from the episode we had last month, but I didn't just find
a few nits. I found 18 baby lice crawling through my
little girls' head. This is disgusting. Nothing like this
has every happened in my life. I've never had lice, Annie
has never had lice, why is this happening now? She's been
in daycare and/or school for the past 4 years (since she
was 3). Why is she getting this now? Her school nurse and
multiple websites said that mayonnaise is one of the best
solutions to lice. It smothers them and makes the hair too
slippery for them to hold on to and lay eggs on. So,
instead of leaving it on for the prescribed hour, I put
Annie to bed with it on, I'm sleeping with it on and I'll
wash our hair tomorrow morning, just to be on the safe
side. Kiki's hair is too fine to conceal the little
vermin. I checked her head today and all I could find was
cracker crumbs and a piece of pineapple. That's wonderful,
because I don't think Kiki would tolerate the mayo
treatment very well!

So, that was my day. Lice picking like a mama orangatan,
wearing mayo and that's about it. I'm going to paint now.
I need to relax. Ciao.
