Cinnamon and Silk Flowers

"As students, you should first watch and investigate
thoroughly. Do not consider someone as a teacher or guru
until you have certain cofidence in the person's
integrity. This is very important. Even after that, if
some unhealthy things happen, you have the liberty to
reject them. Students should make sure that they don't
spoil the guru."

It's late. Almost midnight, but I couldn't let the day
close without updating you on my day. It was crazy. In
both good and bad ways, but for the most part, it was
good.

I had a hard time getting up this morning. I was so
comfortable and still so sleepy that I just didn't want to
get out of my warm bed. I did manage it, though. As hard
as it was. I got to the gym late (of course), but still
did my usual workout. I had over 2 hours until the run
started, so I figured, why not?

Since I am so tired, I'll save you the play-by-play and
I'll just give you the states. My time was 18:11, I came
in 43rd overall (I'm not sure how many runners there were
total) and I won 2nd place in my age division. How cool is
that!?! I wasn't expecting that. All I wanted was to
finish without stopping and I did that and then some! I'm
really proud of myself. I even got a silver medal. I'll
keep it forever. Really. I've never won anything like this
before. In a small way, I know what it feels like to win
the Olympics. I know that sounds retarded, but it's big to
me. I've never won anything like this before.

I celebrated my stellar physical performance by going
shopping. I found a great new pair of running shoes
(Nike's) they were originally $120, but I got them for $89
because they offer a military discount. I also stopped in
Victoria's Secret and bought a new hoodie and I bought oil
warmers and 4 fall scented oils at Bath and Body Works.
That's all I bought for myself.

I've found a place that makes me insanely happy! Michaels.
It's a craft store. As soon as you walk in the first thing
that hits you is cinnamon and silk flowers. There's all
sorts of crafting ideas and wonderful odds and ends. I
went in to get some foamboard and foam shapes (a parenting
project for Annie, a TO DO list, if you will) and I was
really surprised at how good the environment made me feel.
Maybe my true calling is crafting! That could be fun.

I was handed a loaded bombshell when I went to pick Annie
up. The entire place was in a frenzy and I couldn't quite
figure out why, until I looked at the sign out sheet.
There'd been an epidemic case of head lice discovered. I
didn't want to believe Annie could have it, but why would
it avoid her if everyone else had gotten it. I took her
out into the light and I didn't see anything in her hair,
but I wasn't about to take any chances. I went to Wal-mart
and bought the whole arsenal of lice eliminating products.
Shampoo, that little comb, house spray. I was going to
war. I washed Annie's hair, then spent 2 hours running the
little comb through half inch chunks of hair. I was
disgusted to find 10 little bugs. I didn't see any eggs,
just the grown-up bugs, so I think I caught it really
early, but I'm still completely grossed out. Every inch of
my skin and scalp is crawling. I know I don't have them,
because my hair never comes in contact with Annie's. We
never share a brush or hair ties, hats, scarves or any of
the other vehicles for lice propogation. I've never had
lice. I've been told they don't like curly hair. Whatever
keeps them away, I don't care. So, anyhow. I'll redo the
combing thing tomorrow and in 10 days I'll do the whole
process over just to make sure all the little bastards are
dead. I can't believe this is happening to my child. I
wish I could protect her from things like this.

I'd love to write more, but I'm just exhausted. So, Ciao
until the sun rises tomorrow!
