My Life Thus Far
Ronald McDonald and The Manicure Mishap
I still can't believe my baby is a year old today. I can
remember exactly what I was doing, at this moment, of this
day, of last year. Kiki was so sick and frail. She was
covered in tubes and IV's and wasn't allowed to leave the
NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). I didn't get to hold
or nurse her for the first 3 days of her life, because of
all of her tubes. I pumped breastmilk and they fed it to
her through a tube. I think that may have been why getting
her to latch on was such a problem. But, I'm not going to
take a trip back in history. That was a really hard time
for the family, but Kiki is alright now, so I'm not going
to think about it anymore.
Once again, I had a wonderful day (aside from mourning the
loss of my infant, who is now considered a toddler). I
went to the gym and did a normal workout. I'd intended on
doing double-time, but between the cramps and fatigue that
menstruation brings, I just couldn't muster the energy.
But, I stuck to it and at least did a respectable workout.
I've only had 661 calories today, so I'm in great shape.
That last pound should be gone tomorrow, but if it isn't
I'm not going to hang myself. My mindset is in much better
shape than it was just a few days ago.
I got my first paycheck today :) It was nice putting $600
in my account (I only worked 6 days during this pay
period, hence the not-so-big-check) and not feel like I
actually worked for it. My job is everything I wanted and
hoped it would be when I started school. When people ask
me where I work or what I do, I'm proud to answer, which
wasn't the case when I was night manager at Subway or
stock merchandiser at Ross. Clinical assistant just sounds
so much more career-like.
In honor of Kiki's birthday, I sprung the girls out of
daycare/school early, so we could spend the day together.
I just left them there long enough to go to the gym and
get my nails done (more on my nail appointment later). So,
I took them with me to work and they got to meet the
girls' I work with, then we went to the park and to
McDonald's for dinner. Ironically enough, a Ronald
McDonald impersonator came to our McDonald's and Kiki got
a paper crown with Ronald's autograph and a happy birthday
message on it. There was too many other kids, or I would
have taken a picture, but the crown is still a nice
momento of her first birthday.
Now about my nail appointment: I wasn't due for a fill
until next week, but my natural nails were starting to
grow out underneath the tips and it was getting hard to
clean them. So, I wanted a new set. Lyn (the Vietnamese
woman that usually does my nails) had some other lady
there I'd never met, so I had no clue she didn't know what
she was doing. Well, while she was trying to remove the
old set of nails, she TORN my natural nail straight
across, in the middle (not near the top, but in the middle
of my fingernail). IT HURT SO BAD!!!!!! It's still sore
now, but it's better. Lyn was able to glue it in such a
way that my cuticle is covered and it shouldn't become
infected, but I'm still a little concerned. My natural
nails are really thin (which is why I get them manicured
in the first place). I don't need any help creating
catastrophic tears. I got a little discount and Lyn took
over, because I refused to give the novice my hand back.
I'm not a guinea pig. My comfort and appearance is
important to me. I don't want someone who doesn't know
what they're doing, I want an expert. But, I'm sure that's
more than you cared to know about my manicure mishap.
I need to get my house picked up and everything ready for
my day tomorrow. I like getting everything in order the
night before. So, ciao, until I write again :)
