My Life Thus Far

Adopt A Mantra, Root Canals and Mahi-Mahi

Yet another great day! What did I do to deserve two
splendid days in a row?! Maybe I'm finally starting to
take control of my life! A mantra is such a good thing to
adopt. Whenever I'm having a tough time getting through
something, I just ask myself "Why are you doing this?" and
the only answer I allow myself to bring to mind is "So
that I may TAKE CONTROL OF MY LIFE" (my mantra). If you
repeat it enough, it really does take on a life of it's
own. It harnesses a power from within that is far greater
than your weakness.

Work today was CRAZY. It was so busy I hardly had time to
get bored. Anything that could go wrong, did go wrong.
Simple procedures like amalgam restorations and crown
recementing turned into root canal therapy more times than
I'd like to recall, but since I'm still a very secondary
player in the running of the practice, I was just busy
with things like operatory turn-over, processing x-rays,
seating patients and filing charts. All very important
aspects of the smooth running of the day, but I didn't
have to sit through 5 root canal chairsides in one day
(like poor Jill, a primary assistant, and one of the
doctors' favorites). Anyway, so I was pleasantly occupied
throughout the day and all activities buzzed along rather
quickly.

I had a great workout, just as I did yesterday. Snookums
chose not to join me, but he did stop by to give me a kiss
and to discuss logistical plans for the evening. He
decided to give me a break and picked the girls up from
daycare for me. He stopped and bought Kiki more formula
and I just got to worry about myself. I did 30 minutes on
the treadmill, 20 on the elliptical machine and my usual
stretches, Pilates and stability ball exercises. Then as a
bonus, because I didn't have to pick the girls' up, I did
30 minutes in the sauna. Which felt SOOOOOOOOOOOO good,
I'm working it in after EVERY workout from now on. The
heat just MELTED the tension out of my muscles and even
helped with my nagging discomfort (yes, the pain is still
there. I'm trying not to dwell on it). I don't know if the
sauna can help you lose weight (as some people believe),
but I certainly felt better after I got out.

I made a really great dinner tonight. We had mahi-mahi
fillets, pan seared with a sauterne wine reduction,
broccoli florets in four cheese sauce and a steamed baby
red potato. I really out-did myself :) As rich as this
dinner sounds, my portion was only 200 calories. I'm
really good at making healthy meals. I'm also trying to
incorporate more fish into our diet. It's low caloried (as
far as meats go) and it's full of nutrients you can't get
from any other source (other than a vitamin), so why not?

Snookums has duty tomorrow (which means he'll be leaving
early in the morning and coming home sometime Sunday
morning), so I'm going to go spend some time with him
before he has to go to bed. But who am I kidding? I'll
probably fall asleep before he does. I've been passing out
before 9pm consistently for the past week. Thank you
Tylenol PM! Ciao.
