My Life Thus Far
SURGERY
What a day, what a day. It's been long, it's been tiring
and I swear I'm going to bed at 9pm and I'm going to sleep
no later than 10pm. I need sleep!
It all started this morning on my way out the door. My
stupid, skitsophrenic (strictly indoor) cat bolted out the
door like his tail was on fire. I didn't have time to
chase after him, so I left him outside, like I have in the
past, thinking he'd be waiting in the bush when I got
home. Well, he wasn't there when I got home today. I
repeatedly stick my head out the front and back doors and
call him, but he's nowhere to be found. Good luck to him.
When I got to work this morning, I was in so much pain I
could hardly think straight. I had a fever and the pain in
my side and my back was unbearable. Crystal (one of the
other assistants there) came up and asked me if I wanted
to assist the doctor in a 4-tooth multi-surface amalgam
restoration (4 teeth needed big fillings). Even though I
felt like crap I couldn't turn down that opportunity! So,
I sucked it up and did the procedure, but the second I got
out of that operatory, I went straight to my cellphone,
dug through my purse for the number to Naval Hospital and
made an urgent care appointment. They got me in at 12:55
today. I still made it through the rest of the day, the
pain subsided a little down to the constant level of pain
I'm use to.
The doctor's examination was about 2 seconds long. She
asked me questions about my symptoms, laid me down on the
table and almost the moment she pressed down on my right
side, just under my ribs, I nearly lept out of my skin.
That was all she needed to see. She sent me for blood and
urine tests and tomorrow I have to schedule an ultrasound.
I either have gallstones, a porcelein gallbladder or
kidney stones. I'm not sure what porcelein gallbladder is,
but I don't want it. I don't want gallstones or kidney
stones, either. I want something that doesn't require pain
or intervention. I don't want to have SURGERY and if it's
either of the gallbladder issues or if it's a big kidney
stone, that's what will happen. Not more scars. Don't I
have enough scars already?
I still went to the gym. I forgot to ask if I should be
careful or if I could function normally. I don't think
gallbladders rupture, do they? It can't be too important
if it gets removed so frequently. Lots of people get
gallstones. Especially in America with all the fattening
foods we eat (I use to eat).
It's 8:30. I still have lunches to make and I need to
shower if I'm going to get to bed by 9pm. I want to rest
up as much as I can so I'll be at my best tomorrow. I
haven't been 100% the past couple of days at work. I need
to work on that. Ciao.
