My Life Thus Far

I Don't Want To Have Surgery!

Snookums got to be a househusband today. I went to work
and he stayed home with the baby. We thought that it would
be better for Kiki to have an extra day away from the
germs of daycare, so Snookie called in a favor from his
Chief and stayed home. I'm proud of him. He did laundry,
cleaned up, made a pork roast for dinner and took great
care of the baby. I'm so lucky to have such a sensitive,
feeling husband that's able to get in touch with his
feminine side enough to do the "woman's work". I love that
man so much. It's a shame he's leaving again tomorrow :(

My extern is going well. Even though I wish they'd give me
more challenging tasks than developing x-rays and perio-
charting, I am enjoying the other girls that work there.
Everyone is friendly and warm. Even the hygenists, who
tend to have the reputation for being a little uppity.
Everyone is hinting about me coming to work there when I'm
done with my extern, but I'm not sure I want to. I don't
like the long hours they work and I'm intent on sticking
to my guns. I've worked two other jobs that were 12 hours
and 14 hours a day. I didn't go to college and pay all
that money to slave at yet another all-consuming job. The
point was to find a job that would allow me to have a
life, too. If I can't have that, then I won't work at all.
Snookie has already stated that he misses me being
strictly his wife and the girls' mother. He's old-
fashioned in all the ways that are touching.

Lately, I physically haven't been feeling like myself. A
few months ago I started noticing a sharp twinge in my
right side. Right under my rib cage. It would come and go
and I didn't think much of it, but lately it's been far
more persistent. The pain is now traveling up my back and
lodging in between my shoulder blades and it gets quite
intense whenever I eat something I'm not use to. Usually
of the fatty or greasy variety. Yesterday I ate two
sausage links at the Pancake House and I felt like someone
had stopped up my intenstines with a wad of gum the size
of a basketball. I thought I was constipated, but it
wasn't the crampy kind of pain, it was that stabbing pain
in my side. I went online to do some research (and to find
a home remedy) and I came across an article about
gallstones. I'd never heard of them before (well, I'd
heard of them, I just didn't know what they were), but
after reading the article, I discovered that I have 4 out
of 5 symptoms and several of the key factors that lead up
to gallstones. They are pretty targeted symptoms and
factors, too. The pain in the right side of the abdomen,
shooting between the shoulder blades, usually in the
evening, an intollerance for fatty foods, I was an obese
female, I'm part Native American, I've been pregnant AND
used hormonal birth control, I've recently lost a large
amount of weight very quickly. I could go on, but you get
the point. I don't want to have surgery, but before I jump
to that conclusion, first I need to see the doctor to rule
it out. Maybe I have irritable bowel syndrome, or
something less invasive. If I do have gallstones, I have
no one to blame but myself. I accept that. Gallstones
suck, if that really is what's wrong with me. I don't want
to have surgery! I think I'll call and make an appointment
sometime this week.

I'm having an episode right now, so I'm going to go rest.
Thankfully, I'm fine during the day. It's just the past
two evenings that have been hell. Ciao.
