My Life Thus Far

I'm A Perfectionist

There is something so centering about getting your living
space into perfect order. That's what we did today. As a
whole family (minus the baby, of course) we purged,
rearranged and organized our belongings into the unspoiled
harmony that can only be achieved through hours of endless
sorting.

I'm a perfectionist. Not the kind of nut job that requires
EVERYTHING to be the picture of zen utopia, but the kind
of perfectionist that only wants to embark on a task that
I know I can complete in the most sublime state of
excellence I, as a mere human, can attain. That's how I
felt about my task of picture hanging today. I started at
around 10am. I measured, ruled out, charted imaginary
graphs in my mind, laser leveled and eyeballed over 25
photo frames, most of the same basic dimensions. 7 hours
later, I finished. Now I have the most beautiful,
perfectly level, fully aligned, and evenly spaced gallery
of family memorabilia this side of the Mississippi. I'm so
proud :) I also got all of Snookums and my laundry done,
every piece of it, but that isn't anything special.
Tomorrow I'll do the girls' laundry.

Snookums and Annie were quite busy themselves, today. They
tackled the nuclear fallout site that WAS Annie's bedroom.
I say WAS, because now it meets my definition of semi-
PERFECT. She got rid of tons of toys and stuffed animals.
I'm really proud of her. She came up to me several times
throughout the day and said very sweetly "Mommy, it's sad
seeing some of your stuff go, isn't it?" I said "Yes,
baby, but you have to let go, so you can make room for new
toys." This was enough of a reasoning for her, so she was
willing to let go of a lot. I'm so pleased with how the
house has cleaned up. The holidays really created a lot of
clutter and I absolutely HATE clutter. Now I can leave my
flawlessly groomed domain and pursue my professional life
without thinking about the spring cleaning I probably
won't have time to get to. I can feel the guilt melting
away already :)

Well, I'm going to go brew myself a cup of tea and enjoy
my recently redecorated living room. Ciao.
