Cinnamon Scented Pine Cones

Either I'm experiencing the first signs of PMS, or I just
got really tired of my surroundings. Today, I single-
handedly moved 2 couches, 2 solid wood end tables, the
matching coffee table and 2 HEAVY ceramic lamps (and other
various tchochkes) around my living room in a number of
configurations. It was quite theraputic, I think. Snookie
would have helped, but he got called away on official
Stennis duties. One of the underlings in his division
needed to be rescued. His wife was conspiring to kill him
or something like that.

I woke up this morning with the feeling of purpose all
about me. It was time to be done with all of the Christmas
regalia. So, I set about packing away all of the red and
green crap and putting back all the cheetah, panther,
tiger, lion paraphernalia (my husband's chosen decorating
theme, not mine). While doing so, I came to the
realization that I was tired of the way the living room
looked. The balance of the room has always been off, but I
was 8 months pregnant when we moved here and all I cared
about was getting the crap off the truck, not so much
where it landed.

The previous arrangement didn't take advantage of the
available space or the situation of the fireplace. It just
didn't work and now that we've got a massive play yard
plopped down in the middle of the room, taking advantage
of the space was paramount. I moved the smaller couch onto
the bigger wall and the larger couch onto the smaller
wall, which may sound crazy, but it gives the room a much
more intimate feel, leaves copious amounts of room for the
play yard and takes full advantage of the fireplace. You
can actually feel the warmth when you sit on the couch.
Before, if I wanted to feel the fire I had to sit on the
hearth, which is marble, cold and not very soft.

Now, the only things I really need to do in the room are
replace the lamp shades (which are black and don't let
much light into the room) frame our new family portraits
and hang them, and start Snookums' and Annie's award wall.
They both have several awards, diplomas and other
accolades that I'd like to display. All three tasks are on
the agenda for tomorrow. It feels good updating the house
and getting everything in order for when I start living
again.

Yesterday, when we were at Linens N Things, I found these
cinnamon scented pine cones that were giving off the most
fabulous smell. Cinnamon is suppose to make you feel good,
something about the spicy smell stimulates the happy
hormone in your brain and makes you feel energized. Well,
I distributed these pine cones all around the living room
and dining room (in the place of the tired potpourri I had
in baskets and bowls) and now my entire house smells like
a stick of big red, but I LOVE IT! I do feel happier :)

I must be going now. I'm tired and I can feel the early
tightness of impending muscleaches that I know I'll have
tomorrow, but it was so worth it. Ciao.
