My Life Thus Far

169, New Wedding Rings and Holiday Jackasses

Now that I'm no longer plastered, I can accurately fill
you in on what's been going on the last couple of days.
Nothing major really, but you know how much I like to
chronicle my every move.

I mentioned last night that I ran into my Aunt in the post
office. Well, that was a surprise, but not a huge one. We
live 3 miles apart, in a town with 8,000 people in it. The
statisical odds of us running into each other were pretty
good. I was expecting it to happen eventually, but by the
look in her eyes, I'm fairly sure she hadn't thought the
day would come. We shared a little polite dialogue, but
nothing nearly close to the type of conversation we need
to have. Like, why she hasn't responded to any of my
cards, letters or pictures over the past 3 years. She said
she'd call, but I'm not holding my breath. Maybe at some
point I'll pick up the phone and see if she wants to have
a heart-to-heart, but I'm not expecting her to be very
receptive to my side of the story (she's definitely
entrenched in my mother's camp), but I'd like her to at
least hear me out. I don't think our relationship will
ever be the same.

My day started out fabulous! When I got on the scale, I
was down to 169 pounds, just like I wanted to be and
Snookums and I had really great sex in the shower (our way
of getting it while children are awake, with no
interruptions) and the rest of the day was a good day for
the most part, too, but the rabid holdiay shoppers nearly
ruined my good mood several times. Between the hellish
traffic, the rude elephant-footed shoppers in the mall, to
the impatience of cashiers and customer service
individuals, I was having a hard time enjoying myself. My
husband wasn't exactly a CareBear, either. But, I managed
to get through the day without offering to rip out
anyone's vocal cords.

Our first stop was to the CDC. Today was Kiki's
orientation for daycare. We filled out all the necessary
paperwork and took the tour of the mobile infant room (the
6-18 month room). It was nice, clean, well-lite, well-
staffed, but I'm still not crazy about putting my baby
into daycare. Annie didn't go into daycare until she was
4, even if it was my psychopathic mother that was watching
her. I'm sure I'll get over it after the first few
successful drop-offs.

Our second stop was at the Chinese buffet. Snookums
thought a good binge would cheer me up, but it didn't
really. It only took my mind off of abandoning my baby at
daycare and focused it on wanting to throw up the 1,050
calories of Chinese food I'd just eaten (I just looked up
everything I ate at CalorieKing.com). Now when I eat more
than a cup or 2 of anything, I want to hurl. It's like my
stomach thinks it got stapled, or something.

Our third stop was to Kay Jewelers. We got new wedding
rings! It's always nice getting new jewelry, but I can't
help but be a little bitter that I took a 50% step down in
carat weight. It's just not possible to get a 2 carat ring
that doesn't have prongs or sharp edges, which was exactly
what I was trying to get away from. Snookums, however took
a step up. He went from a plain white gold band to a
yellow gold band with 1/2 a carat of diamonds. I've only
got 1 stinking carat (60 microscopic diamonds in a shape
called the frensh twist). My original set was 2 carats and
was quite the showpiece when it was clean (which it hardly
ever was). The plus side to this new ring is that it
doesn't have any sharp edges, it's smooth and won't tear
latex gloves and it doesn't have any tricky crevices to
keep clean. The only thing I regret is the sizing. I got
it sized to 5, but it's spinning around on my finger and
it's really annoying. I wish I'd gotten it cut down to a 4
1/2, but I've got a disproportional image of my body size,
so I think I'm bigger than I actually am. It's a pretty
ring and Snookums picked it out for me, so I love it :)
Even if it is a step down...

Our fourth and final stop was to Barnes and Noble. It was
crazy in there, too! We stopped at the Starbucks cafe and
got something to pick us up. Annie had a double chocolate
fudge cupcake and then disappeared into the children's
section. We didn't spend a whole lot of time there,
because at this point I was ready to go unibomber on
everybody if I didn't get out of the damn crowds. I hate
the holidays.

But, now I'm home. I'm okay. I'm glad the craziness of the
day is behind me. Snookums wants to open up that bottle of
Chardonnay, but after the Chinese buffet, I'm not in the
mood to drink. I want to run 8 miles and take a bath, but
I'll probably do neither. Tomorrow Annie has a dental
appointment, so I'm going to rest up just in case I'm
needed to hold her down. Of course, Snookums has to work
tomorrow (but stand down starts when he gets home, yeah!)
Ciao for now.
