Beg, Borrow and Steal

Today was yet another long day, in a series of long days,
that has been this week. I'm glad this week is finished
because I would really like to sleep later than 6am. At
least, while I still can. I know once I get back into the
real world, sleep will become a highly sought after
commodity that I'll have to beg, borrow and steal for. Not
too much unlike having a newborn, only there will be
little joy involved once the initial novelty of being in
the real world again, wears off.

Annie's multicultural feast was a flop. There were hardly
any parents there (maybe 4 kid's parents came, out of a
class of 20) and there wasn't very much food, which was
okay by me, since I wasn't there for the food anyway. I
tried a little bit of everything just to be polite, but I
passed on the cupcakes. I didn't find them worthy of their
caloric content. German Chocolate isn't my favorite cake.
I only made it because I was under the impression it was
actually German. It turns out (after a little online
research) that it isn't German at all. It's entirely
American. German is the name of a brand of baking
chocolate popular in the 1940's. The recipe was invented
in Texas and was actually called German's Chocolate cake.
Somewhere through history it lost the 's and now it's
mistaken for authentic German cuisine. I guess you learn
something new everyday. No one else needed to know that,
so I kept my mouth shut and accepted the compliments on
how "authentic" it tasted. Whatever, dumbasses.

After Annie's little shin-dig, I decided to stop by an old
friends house to see how she was doing. Shannell and I
went to school together and had babies exactly 3 months
apart. Her son will be 11 months on Christmas and Kiki
will be 8 months. Wow, time is really flying by. Anyway,
she hasn't seen me since I started losing weight and she
was completely floored by my drastic change. I hadn't
realized I looked that different. I still see a fat person
when I look in the mirror. But, I digress, yet again.
Shannell and I caught up on each other's lives and
exchanged numbers we'd somehow managed to lose. It was
nice. But by the time I checked my watch it was already
5:30pm and I had to high-tail it out of there, to pick
Annie up from daycare before I got slapped with an over-
time fee.

I have so many people I want to reconnect with, but I'm
having a hard time mustering up the energy to do it. While
Snookums is gone would be the perfect time, but I've just
clammed up and now he's almost home, so I'll end up
putting it off for another month or two. This is exactly
why I don't have friends. I'm not good at keeping in
contact. I haven't called Gen in almost 2 weeks, why? I
don't know, but now Snookums is coming home (tomorrow or
Sunday) and I don't want her to feel like the third wheel.
You'd have to be a military wife to understand. When
husbands come home, friends get put on the pantry shelf.
When husbands leave, you dust off the friends and latch on
to each other for support. Only, I suck at latching on.
I'm a loner, so I just lose contact. I'm so lame. Remind
me to call Gen tomorrow...

I straightened my hair today (why I'm not sure. A change
of pace I guess). Now I'm a slave to my hair. It'll start
raining tomorrow simply because I can't get my hair wet or
run the risk of looking like the cowardly lion stuck his
finger in an electrical outlet. Yeah, it's that bad. It
looks nice, but it takes forever to do and it doesn't stay
looking nice for long (humidity is a bitch). Not to
mention it gives Kiki something to yank on. I just love
long, flowing, straight hair, though. Why did Annie have
to be so lucky and I got the short end of the genetic
stick? I wonder what Kiki's hair will be like? Both Jason
and I have dark curls (of varying kinds).

Well, I'm going to go soak in a hot tub of Island Paradise
Calgon bath beads. Maybe I'll give Snookums a treat and
shave my legs. I'm sure he'll like that. Ciao.
