My Life Thus Far
Thundering Drum Beats
November 14, 2005
I've got so much to say about today, I don't know where to
start. So, I'll just speak as my heart dictates. It always
knows just what to say.
I had no idea how much I missed the ocean. As I sit here
in bed, the windows ajar, I can hear the waves crashing on
the sand. Like so many thundering drum beats. It's
magnificent. I wish I could capture this moment with more
than just a picture. But, no form of recording could ever
do it justice. It's been so long since I've seen the
Pacific, it was not unlike meeting a long lost friend
after 12 years apart. I'm in heaven.
The drive down was amazingly quick. It only took us 2
hours to get to Portland and another 2 hours to get to
Neskowin. Mapquest predicted about 5 hours. We arrived at
the condo about 45 minutes before Helena, which gave us
time to get unpacked and situated. This place is so
lovely. It's situated RIGHT on the beach. Open the back
door, step out, and you're on the sand. There's a cozy
firelplace and all the amenities you'd expect a full-time
residence to have. We just opened the storm-shutters to
let in the light and sea air and it was home. I NEVER want
to leave.
Dan (Snookums' Dad) surprised us all tonight. After dinner
we were all sitting in the living room, having a deep
conversation about our dysfunctional childhoods, when
there came a knock on the door. An unexpected thing at
9pm, in the middle of nowhere. Snookums answered, since
he's a big strong man and was in utter shock to see his
Dad standing there. Dan wasn't suppose to be coming on
this trip, he had to work, but he pulled some strings and
got a couple of days off to surprise us. It was such a
beautiful moment seeing Snookums and Dan embrace so
freely. I know Snookums wanted so much for his Dad to be
here and now he is. I'll remember today simply for 2
things. My reunion with the ocean and Snookums' joy. Ciao.
