My Life Thus Far
Marfan Syndrome
It's something I hadn't hear of until last week. It was
after dinner. Snookums was in the kitchen, doing the
dishes and I was watching The Learning Channel. They were
talking about giants and diseases that cause humans to
grow to such proportions. One of the diseases they talked
about was called Marfan Syndrome. Basically, it's a
chromosomal defect that causes the carrier to literally
drop dead of a heart attack at a young age. They tend to
be over 6'4", have a long, narrow face, a high-arched
palate which causes over-crowding of the teeth, long
appendages, scoliosis (curvature of the spine), a flat
chest wall and a number of other problems like, a more
likelyhood of getting hernias, leg and joint pains and
detached retinas and some other medical conditions I don't
understand.
Well, you're probably wondering why I even care about such
a syndrome. It has to do with my Snookums. Snookums is
6'8", with a long, narrow face, a high-acrched palate (his
crowded teeth were fixed with braces), he's got long arms
and legs, he had scoliosis as a child (he had to wear a
back brace for it), he's got a flat chest wall, he had a
hernia and is always complaining about his legs and knees
hurting. Do you see my concern? I don't mean to sound like
a hypocondriac, but if Snookums has this syndrome, I think
I'd like to find out before he drops dead at 29.
I printed out some material on it, maybe Snookums will see
the similarities, too and get it checked out. Ciao.
