My Life Thus Far
THE 100 WALK/JOG
I had a great day. I can honestly say that I did a myriad
of enjoyable activities today. It seems like I rarely have
days were I enjoy myself so thoroughly that the day
doesn't end feeling like it was a total waste. I know, my
life is great and I shouldn't sound so cynical, but who
doesn't have a few days in their life that feel like they
should never have happened?
I found a way to make my daily exercise routine, not so
routine! It was fun, made the time go by quicker, worked
up a massive sweat without making me feel like I was ready
to pass out AND burned twice the calories of walking
alone...I call it: THE 100 WALK/JOG. It may sound
incredibly lame and retarded, but it worked out great. I
was walking along Bay st. feeling great, but getting a
little bored. So, I decided to jog a little. Well, I'm
asthmatic and jogging isn't the greatest soother of
asthmatic lungs, so I had to stop, but when I did I
noticed that my leg muscles and abs were clenched tight
and my butt was tight, all of my muscles were tensed up
and feeling very warm. Much warmer than when I walk alone,
so I devised this alternating walk/jog combination that
worked perfectly. I walk 100 steps, then jog 100 steps. I
get all the benefits of both exercises, alternating gave
me time to recover (asthma attack free) from jogging, but
also allowed me to raise my heartrate higher. I ended up
going 5 miles in the time I usually only walk 3.5 miles.
When I got home, I was sweating, hot and feeling SOOOO
worked out. My pedometer says I burned over 600
calories!!!! That was more than I'd eaten for breakfast
and lunch combined. I burned all that in about an hour and
a half of exercising. I'm so proud :)
When I got home from my fabulous workout, I fed the baby,
then took a L-O-N-G, hot bath and just relaxed. I think I
might have fallen asleep for a minute, but I'm okay! I
read my book until Snookums came and washed my back and
called me to dinner. That's right Snookums made me dinner!
He isn't exactly a gourmet cook, but he did a good job. We
had turkey burgers and I had a baby spinich side salad
instead of the bun.
After dinner, Annie and I made cookies. She had a great
time, which was the whole point, but man, I wish I hadn't
opened that can of worms, but the deed is done. I was SOOO
hard limiting myself to just 1 cookie and Snookums wasn't
able to eat 1 because he knew he'd eat the whole pan if he
tasted the warm and chewy chocolate chip cookies. I admire
him for that. I couldn't decide whether I wanted cookies
or Haagen Dazs dutch chocolate ice cream, so I had both.
The serving size of the cookies was 2 and the ice cream
serving size was 1/2 a cup, so I had 1 cookie and 1/4 of a
cup of ice cream. In total, my dessert came to 180
calories, so once again, I'm proud of myself :) I didn't
fall prey to the temptation of warm cookies!
After I get done here, I'm going to get the girls' ready
for bed, then Snookums and I are having gingerbread tea.
Celestial Seasonings makes the greatest teas in the
universe (Bigelow is a close second, though) Add a little
Splenda and you get a great, warm, sweet treat with a
whopping 0 calories. You've gotta love that :) Ciao!
