My Life Thus Far

Port Orchard Boulevard

I went for a walk earlier this afternoon. It's raining
outside, but when I'm alone there's nothing better than a
walk in the rain. So refreshing, so cool, so clean. I
started out on my usual route. Down Kitsap st. Up Sidney.
But, instead of just turning around and retracing my steps
home, I decided to take a different path and I'm so glad I
did.

When I got to the end of Sidney I debated with myself
which direction I wanted to go. I was feeling good, my
feet weren't tired, my back felt great. I chose to take a
left on Tremont st and then a right on Port Orchard
Boulevard, because I've never been down that street
before, but I knew it would take me in a complete circle
back to Kitsap st, then home. So, that's what I did. I was
surprised to find that there were no sidewalks along Port
Orchard Boulevard, only a gravel path following along the
side of the road. It was lovely, though, because there was
nothing but beautiful deciduous trees all around me and
not one single house, building or road for over 2 miles. I
don't think more than 5 cars passed me the whole time and
I just got to take in all the quiet nature. The colors of
the leaves, the sound of the rain, the babble of the
salmon stream next to the path. It was amazing. I live in
the middle of the city, yet I found an entire street that
is so serene and peaceful to walk along. I almost wanted
to cry (that isn't hard for me to do, lately).

If I want nature I've got 2 choices: walk by the ocean,
which is flanked by a wall of traffic, or drive 30 minutes
to a state park. So, discovering Port Orchard Boulevard
(even though I've always known it was there, I'd just
never been down it) feels like such a wonderful thing.

I just wanted to share that thought, before I forget or it
loses it's significance. Ciao.
