My Life Thus Far
Read-A-Thon
I had a read-a-thon today! After writing this morning, I
spent the majority of my morning lounging on the couch.
While doing so, I was able to finish the last 50 pages or
so of Divining Women. I was kind of disappointed with the
ending. I was glad Maureen found her strength and got away
from her controling husband, but I was disappointed that
the baby she was carrying died (cord wrapped around her
neck at birth). I guess in a way, it allowed her to have a
clean break from him and start her life anew and she
handled the death amazingly well. Almost like she expected
the baby to die. Sorry if anyone was going to read the
book and I ruined the ending :)
Snookums has been watching football game after football
game all day. Since I was out of reading material and I
despise all things sports-related, I took a walk to the
library. It served 2 purposes. I squeezed in my walk and I
picked up a couple more books. I got When The Emperor Was
Divine, by Julie Otsuka and Getting Mother's Body, by
Suzan-Lori Parks. I've already finished When The Emperor
Was Divine. Like I said, Snookums has been engrossed in
football and it was only 144 pages. It was about a
Japanese-American family during WWII and the struggles
they endured while imprisoned in an internment camp and
readjusting to life outside of the camp after the war. It
was a good book, but I feel like I've read it before (or
one similar). Maybe it's just a familiar topic for me. I
know I've read about the Japanese internment camps before.
The other book I got is about a young woman named Billie
who is single, pregnant and in need of money. So, her and
some of her relatives are in search of her dead mother's
grave, because legend has it she was buried wearing a
wealth of jewels. I'm sure it will be interesting.
I'm getting sleepy (and Snookums is STILL watching
football!) I don't know when he plans on coming to bed,
but it's 11pm and Kiki is getting up in the morning,
whether I'm ready to or not. So, ciao and goodnight.
