My Life Thus Far

Maximum Capacity

I filled my day to maximum capacity in the hopes that I
wouldn't notice Snookums' absence. It's working so far,
but I know it'll hit me when I go to bed. I think I'm
going to slip a good workout in before bed, so that
hopefully, I'll be out before my head hits the pillow. The
moment he walked out the door. I took a walk through the
house and noticed all the signs of his presence. His
rumpled pillows and twisted sheets. The glass he left on
his nightstand. His dirty clothes in the hamper. His
breakfast dishes in the sink and I missed him before he
even got out of the driveway! I'm such a putz, I know.
But, there's something different about him going 1,000
miles away, on an aircraft carrier, in the middle of the
Pacific Ocean to play war games. It's not exactly a
pleasure trip. I can't help but worry about him. Wouldn't
you? Maybe not you strong, independant woman, but I'm
slightly concerned for his well-being.

This morning I took Annie to do something she's been
wanting to do for months. We donated her hair to Locks of
Love. Annie has been growing her hair her entire life. It
was down past her butt and VERY hard to manage. She had 10
inches of it cut off. They use the hair to make hair
replacements for little girls with cancer and alopecia (a
disease where all the hair on your body falls out). Annie
loved the idea of another little girl wearing her hair and
being happy. She got it layered and I hate to admit it,
but it makes her look a bit older. She loves swinging it
freely (it was almost always in a ponytail, before). I'm
glad she's happy.

After Annie got her hair done, I had to do some retail
therapy. I went shopping, mostly for things around the
house. I always wait until Snookums is gone to make home
improvements, I don't know why. I got a beautiful runner
for the table in shades of burgundy and chocolate browns.
It looks amazing on the dining room table and it's more
functional than silk placemats (what WAS I thinking when I
bought those?). I also picked up some more photo paper and
albums to make the grandparents brag books. It's a project
that will keep me busy for a few days. Cropping and
trimming hundreds of pictures. Fun.

When we got home from shopping there was a message on the
answering machine from Cassie. They (Cassie, Amanda, and
Shauntey) were going out to dinner and they wanted to know
if I wanted to go, since Snookums wasn't home. I jumped on
it. It's nice getting out with other women. They love
having the girls around (they all want children
desperately, but aren't ready just yet) and have infinite
patience with them. We went to Applebee's and spent most
of the time cracking up and making fun of our frantically
busy and absent-minded waiter. Shauntey asked for a glass
of water 4 times and never got it! I did good food-wise. I
ordered off of the Weight Watchers menu and had the
chicken skillet with whole wheat tortillas. They even had
the calories (only 360) and fat grams right there on the
menu. It made ordering easy. All restaurants should do
that.

Well, I must be going. Kallista is screaming her head off.
She's exhausted and ready for bed. Ciao.
